Just have asked a person selling home made raised beds the cost for making one. If it is cheap enough I will get three so I have one for sweet peas, one for normal peas and one for beans.

Here's hoping I can get it all sorted now so I can get the ground sorted ready for spring :)

OK..... have spent the afternoon designing my new garden. I have ordered a 3ftx3ft raised bed for some sq foot gardening and the lady on ebay has given me the cost of £7 for one that will fit along the side of my fence. I am going to put some wood at the back then create a zig zag of invisible thread as said earlier. If it fits I am going to order two more. One for beans and one for peas. It should mean I am saving space for them and then next year can switch them about.

Do you know which variety of cucumber you planted as I want to buy some seeds for next year?

Hi, no but I'm going to find out. three plants, thats all, and they've just been amazing. They have few seeds too so you could eat them like apples if you were so inclined, they're lovely!

Will find out, as soon as I do I'll let you know - but I'm going to try and keep a few seeds in case i don't know what variety they are!!

If you are thinking about switching them for rotation, then you can't, as beans and peas are in the same family.

Oh yeah... Never thought about that. Still it will be alright as they are small enough to replace the compost.

thanks but not sure what happened to my garlic i did in the spring....?

is that just normal salad leaves from seed?
  • The garlic you did in spring might have been too early, you still might see it though as conditions are just right now. plant bulbs now, unsure on what seeds can be planted now though. See my earlier post on pg 162 for over winter ideas

  • Very Autumnal here today but still getting loads from the Garden and Allotment. Harvested loads of Tomatoes in the last week so made several batches of Tomato Sauce for the Freezer which I can add to Spag bol/lasagne etc. Still got a few courgettes, cucumbers, beans, spring onions etc and now looking forward to the winter veg like parsnips, cabbages, squashes etc.

It's my first year with the Allotment and only got about 2 thirds of it planted up but looking forward to Spring already as I've almost got it all ready for Planting. Grew some things for the first time this year so starting to make plans on increasing yield next year. For example, I grew Sweetcorn for the first time but only 10 plants - the flavour was out of this world, so sweet and fresh so will be growing lots more next year. Onions were great too but I only had a few so will be growing a lot more of those and also Red Onions this time.

The list goes on but suffice to say that I've been really pleased with what I've been able to produce and found it so addictive.

    Good luck to everyone.;)
