Aww thank you. I feel a bit like I had nothing to do with it though lol, the plants just get on with it. :rotfl:
I always knew I wanted my own garden, but I had no idea how much I was going to love it. I'm already thinking about next year and what I can do, and possibly more to the point, how much I can squeeze in!
It's been monsoon like here this morning, which is probably just as well as I'm in sort out and tidy mode. But I'll have my usual happy potter in the greenhouse later.
I was in Poundland yesterday and got some more tomato feed and some fruit and veg feed as well as some of the little pots, 3"? Well the ones that are in a pack of 20. Was pleased because my local one hasn't had any of these things for ages.
I've managed to harvest some broad beans. Does anyone know if I can put them straight into the freezer and how long they would take to cook?(I not keen on them, only grew them for DH!)

Hi MisterNick welcome to the site. I have staked all of my sweetcorn as they were being blown over by the wind. They seem to be doing OK.
Hi Moonflower the bees should have done the trick. You might just have to wait a bit to see the results.
Happy gardening everyone.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Ha ha, I keep looking too! Only the Gardener's Delight have any red ones on so far, so will definitely be growing those again next year. I like your idea of growing lots of different varieties. The only others we have this year are Moneymaker (lots of large toms but no ripe ones yet) and Roma (these have been a nightmare in the border since they are semi-determinate and I didn't know what that meant when I planted them (bush type)! - will stick to pots for bush toms next year).
Glad there are more of us weird peeps about
I'm sure that some of mine are slightly less green than before. or is that wishful thinking? :rotfl:
As I hadn't grown toms before I thought one of each would be a good thing to try. I have Ferline, Alicante, Orange Pixie, Beefsteak, Gardeners Delight, Moneymaker and a Tumbler.
Q about the tumbler - are they supposed to be cherry sized toms? 'cause mine aren't?! Mummy to an amazing little girl0 -

frazzbo - fab aubergine!! My plants look really healthy & plenty of flowers but I just can't get any fruit to set. I'm beginning to think it's just not warm / bright enough here.
Thanks - I'm quite pleased with them myself! They're actually being grown outside so I'm sure they won't grow to a huge size, but at least it shows that you can get something without a greenhouse - and I don't even live in the south! I have two more growing now on that same plant, and the ones I grew from seed are starting to get buds on now as well so maybe I'll get aubergines from them too if it's not too late :jThat's mildew on the courgettes - they nearly always seem to get it and you should still get courgettes. Spraying the leaves with milk can help, but they'll probably be OK even if you don't do anything (just remove any leaves that die). I have 4 plants in 2 square metres and they still look crowded.
Spraying with milk?!? That sounds very random! Are the leaves actually diseased then, or is it just a cosmetic thing? I do have courgettes growing and they look great, so I must be doing something right0 -

mine are much bigger than cherry size too, but not as big as the moneymaker (which should be about the same size as your alicante - I think that Alicante was bred from Moneymaker)0 -
My tumbler is still laden with green fruit, quite large fruits as well! The gardeners delight have lots of flowers and a couple of small green toms - so so painfully slow to develop though. Might try feeding them more.Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that still has lots of green tomatoes!
I only have 3 tomatoes on the plant in my conservatory (one plant didnt get any flowers at all). They are a pale green and dont seem to have any intention of turning red!
My tumbling tom plant is doing really well, especially as it is outside in a hanging basket. I did put in the garage one night last week due to the torrential down pours, but I must have a least 20 tomatoes on there. All of which are lovely shades of green :rotfl:!
I have heard that putting them in brown paper bags makes them ripen but will use that as a last resort if they are still green by the end of August!
I also planted some pumpkin seeds saved from last years Halloween pumpkin. I didnt expect anything to grow (I'm a novice and a bit of a 'shove it in some soil and see what happens' type of gardener!) but I transfered the small plants from my windowsill into a large pot outside and they grew and grew. I've had quite a few yellow flowers and at the back of one is what I'm hoping will turn from a small green stripey thing into a pumpkin in time for Halloween, big enough for the kids to carve out. I dont know if I'm supposed to, but I cut off some the big leaves so that the flowers could get more sun and hopefully I'll get orange coloured pumpkins and not green ones to go with my tomatoes!
Sorry to ramble, but I'm just so pleased with myself for growing anything, even if it all stays green! And I'm blaming the very grey weather of Northwest of England for the lack of colour!0 -
I am sooooo fed up with all the rain and bad weather (Manchester area) too humid things starting to go mouldy, not very good for the plants hope things start to brighten up next week need some hot sunny days, here is hoping0
