bizliz - I don't think you need to remove side shoots on aubergines (well I haven't anyway :rotfl:)
antonia1 - yes, you'll need a stake for your cucumber. They love to climb.
lolly5648 - tomato food is great for things that flower and fruit, but not so good for leafy veg. Veg planted out in the ground or in raised beds with compost added shouldn't need feeding. Leafy veg in containers might benefit from a more nitrogenous feed, it depends how big the containers. Personally, I don't feed them (only tomato food for fruiting plants). I prefer smaller, tastier veg, but feeding will probably give you larger yields.0 -

Please no hosepipe ban :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Yeah I second the no hosepipe ban, my outside tap is quite literally my life!!
Is there talk of a hosepipe ban? Can you use a hosepipe if you have your own well (we're not on mains water)?0 -

Thanks, I have been going round the garden feeding everything including cabbages and broccoli. I will stop that and now only feed fruiting plants. I am not sure what a nitrogenous feed is but I have a multipurpose one that says fruit and veg so might try that on the veg in pots.0 -

Sorry, a nitrogenous feed is one that is high in Nitrogen. Most multipurpose ones will fit the bill. As far as I can remember, tomato food is lower in Nitrogen (which is good for leaves), but higher in potash & potassium (to benefit flowers & fruit). If you look on the container, most fertilisers will give a N:P:K ratio. (N for Nitrogen, P for phosphates and K for potassium). It's been a while since my science days so hope this is all right0 -
Greenhouse is 4 meters long and 2 metres wide just the plastic one but I was given it for free :j:j its really good the toms aubergines peppers and chillis love it, I have always grown them outside with only a little sucsess so am hoping I will get better results this year. I just love growing things have taken 6 cuttings of my sage plant aswell and they are looking really healthy, as I say to my husband I should have married a farmer not an insurance broker lol if i won the lottery I would buy a huge farm and have loads of poly tunnels full of fruit and vege and have chickens, ducks, turkeys, sheep, pigs and cows aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh wouldnt that be heaven
:D

I remember reading that cougettes and pumpkins are good veggies to grown in between sweetcorn. As I've already got my courgette in a tub on the patio, I was wondering if I could put my aubergine plant there? Or will they "fight" for space etc.
thanks!
Elizabeth (bizliz27)
Courgette will grow on the ground and Aubergine grows upright so I would plant it about a foot away from courgette and it should be fine

Just read post about thinning out carrots, when are you supposed to do this?, doh I wonder if I am too late?
Birds keep eating my broccoli leaves, there are 2 big fat pigeons sat on our wall every morning, going to try and net them over tonight or I wont have anything left soon.
Maybe not the right place for this question but does anyone know how do you kill off ivy? Keep cutting all the leaves back but know they are just going to keep growing back till I manage to kill off the roots. Not easy to dig up as against a wall.0 -
Hey all
I have just added up all the plants in the garden and I have to say I think I'm obsessed! Went up to Aldi today and picked up an aubergine plant, a chilli plant and a cucumber plant- was too late with the seeds for these.
Anyway..... I think I surely must have enough plants now! Oh also got some radish seeds in aldi reduced to 29p. I don't even like radishes!
This is a bad addiction!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790
