If you can line the inside with cardboard, it will provide some insulation and allow a higher temperature to develop. Paper and cardboard should be shredded and dampened. That's what it says in me new book, anyway. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
i went and bought 2 blueberries and 2 raspberries from lidl. Now have 4 blueberry bushes, don't suppose anyone knows if I'll get any fruit from them this year?
Maybe..... Depends if they were mature bushes or 'babies'. If they were the cheap Lidl ones then they are probably young bushes and are unlikely to fruit this year. I got a few blueberries off mine last year - hope that I'm going to get a good crop this year!0 -

I bought the stick lidl ones and the stick ones from wilko's. Must resist buying mature bushes, must resist buying mature bushes...

Thanks for those tips...will line it with cardboard tomorrow...i just bought a book that advises that a person piddles on their compost. I don't think i will be doing that though. That might be going a bit too far though eh!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Had a good couple of hours in the garden today. I had to take a lot of breaks, but i am so pleased that I got the stuff done that i wanted to do. I now have three raised beds erected and filled with compost. 1 large bed which is 2m x 1m and 2 smaller beds 1m x 1m. I had already got the large one set up but i constructed and filled the smaller two today. I might take a few pics tomorrow, but since all the beds are covered with fleece there won;t be much to see!
I originaly put the fleece on them to prevent a stray cat from doing its business in them, but i read today that it is a good idea anyway since it helps to warm the soil up ready for planting.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

They were saying about p**ing on your compost heap last year on Gardeners World, I was also told that if you can get wee from a vegetarian and a meat eater that would be the optimum mix! Now I wonder if DS2's girlfriend (who's veggie) would mind...............:rotfl:0 -
