Hello again,
after my very confident post about all the things i had on the go,,I am now a bit scared!! A few things have pushed thru the soil and I am not sure when to pot them on?
sweet peas about 2 and half inches tall one set of leaves
these were in an unheated propergator and after reading the last few pages of posts i realise i need to take the lids off now :-)
all my 4 types of toms have come thru too each with a set of leaves,,,sweet peppers are thru and my flowers ,,,apart from the poppy seeds which are now furry,,,i guess they are too wet maybe? with the condensation in the windowsill propergator....
Anyhow i am so scared to take them out of their little homes and put them in new ones they look so fragile !! I hope they grow on though and i will try to repot them b4 the weekend is over.
Its a mix of excitement cos i can grow more stuff on the windowsills next week but I am guessing these tiny seeds will need a bit more love and warmth on my indoor windowsills yet!
there is nothing else for it hubby is going to have to buy a greenhouse!!!
happy gardening everyone and thanks for all the tips and guidance :-)Life happens when you are busy making other plans

Please can I join the gang? :j
As ever, I'm late starting again - I've only just got my potatoes chitting on the windowsill and have ordered some Highland Burgundy and some Salad Blue pots that haven't arrived yet.
This is my second year of container gardening. I tried way too many things last year with varying amounts of success, so I'm actually going to cut down this year and concentrate on the successes.
Out goes: tomatoes, herbs, sweetcorn, aubergines, cucumbers and gherkins, peas, French beans, butternut squash
sticking with:
potatoes (rocket, Highland Burgundy, salad blue)
courgettes,
spring onions
salad leaves
carrots
possibly parsnips
possibly leeks
My dh built a lovely raised bed for me last year which I had started swede in. But the neighbours cat keeps pooing in it and I kind of let the bed go bad
I'm going to clear it at the weekend (there could even be some swedes in there somewhere), plant some red and white onion sets (am I too late?) and stick some rigid plastic straws in to deter the cat.
Hopefully this year the compost will be ready from our compost bin.
Anyway, I look forward to joining you all on the great journey that is growing-your-own veg!DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

err....it's a bit early for courgette seeds. They grow really fast and are frost tender, so you need to keep them sheltered until you have no frost. Are you in the north or the south?
Hope you like them a lot, each courgette plant will crop a courgette a week (well, mine did last year)0 -

Thanks Misskool, i just did what it said on the packet. I sowed them before i began participating in this thread, if only i had known.
I'm in the Midlands.
I really like courgette and use them in chutneys and i also dehydrate them for long term food storage :-)Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Kath I did exactly the same thing.
I got all my seeds, read the back of the packet, and started panicking the fact I should be sowing them by now, but because of the weather I am leaving it.
It's driving me mad, because I am so eager to get them planted to start seeing the results, but everyone I have spoken to has advised if I do, I risk them not growing properly and having a poor harvest, or worst case is that they don't grow at all.
The only thing I am able to do at the minute, is get my potatoes chitting and start organising the garden a bit better.
I live in West Yorkshire, and the weather has been surprisingly clear over the past few days...but heard the next couple of days are going to be not great at all.
As long as I can get out in the garden on Sunday...
Sorry I'm rambling on0 -
Morning all
Yes it is a issue with trying not to sow now, I am itching too but there is no point yet.
I finally bought the ericacious compost so will do the bluberrys today.
I have a pokey through of a chilli plant, so that one worked, jsut the pepper Im waiting for.
Today Ill sow some tomatoes, and I will put them in the warmest room
I bought a calendar ( ofcourse you can make one) of when things are sowed and when to do SUCCESSIONAL sowings. I think I should be thinking about further Aubergines this weekend as thats 2 weeks on from planting the originals.
Carrots are outside done now in the builders trug-bucket with layer of fleece over so the birds dont get them. I got potato bags from Wilkies yesterday so need to pot out the rest of the Home guard that are chitted well now. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Should i be sowing carrots now? It says march on the packet so with the cold weather i thought i would leave it a while, they will be planted in tubs on the patio.....i have one of those flimsy plastic unheated green houses to put the in over night. Also is it alright to plant my red onion sets in pots outside now? i have 5 inside at the moment, inside my recycled loo rolls (not sure if this is ok tho', think i should of planted peas in the loo rolls.
loving this thread , it's given me the gardening bug.......i was only going to grow potatoes (first time) but i've got potatoes, carrots, onions, peas, tomatoes, peppers and spring onions now0
