Have just been in greenhouse to find that two of my squash have got open female flowers :j:j but no males are open yet
Just hoping that someone close is growing some and that the bees can get to them fingers crossed you never know !!!!
Peppers are growing and I can see at least 6 flower buds on each one :j
Had a look to see if pots were ready yesterday but they are only the size of a golf ball and they need to be twice that size the foliage is just starting to flower now so they should not be too long I hope.
Turnips are still bolting and am pulling these ones out as it happens.
Loads of salad leaves and toms are doing brill loads of flowers.
Beetroot leafs are being plaged by a nasty pest and have to keep snipping off the bad leaves
Onions and Garlic also look very well, cant wait to eat my first tomato I love home grown ones.
When peas have flowered how long is it until you can harvest them ?
    Thanks Jani:)

wish pea pods were yellow, red, blue, white, any other colour than green.
I always miss some, if anyones knows of any that are a different colour please let me know :D
Yeah you can get purple ones. I've tried Dutch Purple podding (tall) last year and as shelling peas, they were very disappointing, I think they are supposed to be used as dried peas over the winter.
This year someone has given me some Lancashire lad, which is a purple podder and tall, and apparently is better used as a mangetout than a shelling pea.

There is some amateur work being done by a lady on the GYO forum to try to mix different peas and get a true purple mangetout, also a tall purple sweet pea, another lady called daughter of the soil has a red pea and her blog is well worth a read.

I don't think any tall purple sweet shelling peas are available yet, but like you I would like some very much :D

Newbie grower here... Its lovely to see so may others are trying to grow their own fruit and veg!

My crop is pretty small to say the least :( I live at home and my mum keeps on complaining about all the seedlings in the house, I currently have a strawberry plant, salad onions, peppers, chillies and tomatoes. I did have salad leaves up until a few weeks ago until they all bolted :(

Will defo be keeping an eye on this thread!

How do salad leaves bolt? I thought you could eat them any size.

Hmm yum .... have just eaten my first 2 strawberries :j

Have just had a hunt in B&Q, managed to get a tray of cabbages for 50p and some celery for 20p,

My garden is going ant crazy at the mo, I have black ones, brown ones, red ones .... have yet to see the flying ones (that usually make an appearance) ..... anyone know of a good ant killer, that I can use with 2 dogs??

It means the plants start to produce flowering shoots (the stalks on the lettuces get long and elongated), then no more leaves are produced.

Best thing is just to sow some more :)
