Welcome along
If you have the strawberry plants in containers still I'm sure they won't mind being put into the ground. If thay are already in the ground just make sure you dig up the roots and all. I have just recently moved last years strawbs from the pots into a plot and they seem to be doing well, even if I didn't make the hole big enough for them.
You might want to start the beans off in trays and plant out once germinated but I'd risk the peas in their growing spot now.0 -
Thanks orange king!Thought I'd better ask as I'll cry if my strawbs die!!right off to plant some seeds with my DD!0

If they're not well heeled in they don't form a good root base - this is how I lost mine last year. I hope yours survive.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
you should move plants when they are dormant. If your strawberries are flowering and you move them you might lose the crop as they will be shocked.
You can grow peas, runners and beans straight into the ground but mine always get eaten by something so I start them off in roottrainers or larger newspaper pots.
Don't start them off in a small cell tray!!0 -
Hi all :hello:
Have been lurking for ages on this thread and picking up some great tips from you all :T This is my first year of growing veg, I usually just grow flowers/shrubs.:D
So far I've got tomatos, 3 different kinds of lettuce/salad leaves, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, courgettes, chillies, peppers, cauliflowers and spinach.
Unfortunately I have an 11 month old boxer puppywho likes to dig! I've got the carrots and pots in bags outside and she's dug the carrot seeds that I carefully planted 3 times now!! some have managed to germinate in one pot but the others no sign yet!! Anyway yesterday she saw a fly or something hovering over one of the potato sacks and she dived on one of the sacks and has snapped all the stems off 2 plants
am not quite sure what to do with them now! am so annoyed lol Can any one tell me what I can do with them and will they grow now that the stems have snapped??

Thanks BB. Will build up a bit more compost around them try and keep them going - the next set of leaves are coming through so far so good.
First french bean coming through after days of moaning about not seeing anything!!:TAhhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0 -
Thanks Izzwizz, wasn't sure if they'd be big enough for tomatoes so will definately use them for beans and tomatoes.
I've tried a few composts this year. Asda one was full of lumps of straw or grass. Cheap one from poundland and strangely the Morrisons one were just a mass of coconut fibre, stones, lumps of clay and twigs. I've recently started to buy the Wickes stuff (4 x 75L for £12 - Bargain really). They sell multipurpose and peat-free versions too. I've found it to be nice and open textured, but like has been mentioned it maybe dries out a little quick.
My french beans rotted tooFortunately I read about an alternate way to germinate corn, so I tried it with the beans too and it seems to work. Basically line the bottom of a small tub with kitchen roll and soak the paper in warm water. Place the seeds onto the damp paper and leave them in a warm dark place. Mine have all started growing roots within 2 days.
