    hi guys

feeling really disappointed as loads of my stuff is dying

I can barely talk about it!

What feed has everyone used for thier containers, this is why everything is dying, please dont not feed your stuff otherwise, obviously only one way its going to go _pale_

Wow sorry to hear that Lynz, I hope you get to save some of them.

I use a powdered miracle grow feed very occasionally, but it seems to make no difference what so ever (Well I am seeing no miracles:p)

2 of my courgette seeds have suddenly sprouted 3 weeks after the ones planted at the same time grew.

I have 2 plants planted out in large containers about 8 inches high.
And the 3 pots that didnt germinate and had thick green moss growing on the soil got abandoned in the mini greenhouse pot storage area.

Now they have germinated and are healthy seedlings???:j

I think sometimes we can give our plants too much attention, mine seem to thrive on neglect.:p

What stuff is dying and where is it?
Feeding is not the reason they will be dying, not unless you have stupidly overdosed them.

Edit, btw, having just read it back, it might read as I thought you were stupid to overdose plants with too much fertiliser, I didn't mean that, we all make mistakes, I meant if you massively (stupidly) overdosed them.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Linz Are you saying plants are dying because you haven't fed them? Mine are at risk of dying from overnight frost.

My container spuds were fed with blood fish and bonemeal after a month and I'm using up a box of Miracle Grow, it isn't ideal for them but I don't want to waste it. After the box is finished I'll be using manure tea and the mixed weed tea.

Oh my goodness, really sorry to hear that lynz - you were doing so well. I haven't started feeding any of mine yet as I thought that they got all the nutrients they needed from the compost for about 6 weeks or so. Was going to start feeding them at the beginning of June. Whats dying?

    ((Lynz)) hugs from me.

I was out of seedling trays the other day! Had a light bulb moment during my tea break..use the plastic biscuit tray that my foxes bisuit came in!

What a kind person you are feeding biscuits to your foxes :rotfl:

I've been pressing into service plastic meat packaging trays, margarine and ice cream cartons. If you don't buy these you can ask neighbours if they do.

  • Hi there everyone, im new to this board, normally post on the old style board, but have just moved into a house with a fair sized garden and want to make it work for us. I bought some potatoe tubers in january, hopin to get them in early into my veg patch, but with the minus 14 weather we have had and the continuous snow (i live in rural scotland) ive not been able to put anything in. The potatoes i had chitting on my window ledge are there still, months on and im wondering if they will still be ok to plant as they are lookin really shrivelled now, but they still have sprouty bits. Im so new to vegetable gardening and want to apologise for sounding so thick. Also does anyone else have any suggesions as to what to plant in there?

    Kind Regards

    Debbie

I'm about 5 miles (as the crow flies) south of you and suspect that you have things out too soon.
Whilst you have a nice sunny spot, it's still too cold in london for lots of the things you are growing, to go outside.

    Taken from your home page:
    • Spring onions
    • peas
    • Mange Tout
    • Aubergines
    • Tomatoes
    • Peppers
    • Squash
    • Courgette ( globe)
    • Climbing french beans...could plant a few but risk losing to cold weather.
    • Patty-pan
    • Carrots
    • Rocket
    • Charlotte Potatoes
    • Broad Beans
Anything in red above can be sown or planted outside, everything else should be tucked up nice and warm. I know you have a 'greenhouse' on the roof but this can get very cold inside too at night.
A friend who lives close to your area said inside her greenhouse it went down to 3c last night which is too cold for the rest of your list.

Over watering is a very common mistake with new gardeners too, is that a possibility? the soil should be damp, not wet.

And I agree with Lotus Eater, it wont be feeding unless you have gone way over the top with the strength.

You still have time to sow more, so don't worry;)

Just a thought is it possible to grow leeks in 2 litre plastic pop bottles with the top cut off, thought they might be deep enough, wondering if anyone has tried this?
