French bean - 10 days on no sign of germination.

I was giving up hope on my french beans heynonnynonny, then 2 days ago I saw stirrings from one and now it's going great guns! Nothing from any others though (sowed 6) and sowed them about 10 days ago.

Have a happy holiday Garnettlady - hope it does you good and you come back refreshed and ready to start gardening again :D

I will hold out some hope for them then, better get some research done on them, it's all been trial and error so far. May but 3 in a big pot and wigwam some canes up.

Thats what I was planning on doing and giving a couple to my mum, as long as I don't end up with just one - in which case mum will have to fight me for them :rotfl:

Anyone know how I distinguish cucumber plants from courgette plants?

I got a multi pack from Tesco and they haven't labelled them up.

Pot them all into individual pots and let then grow a bit. The courgettes will get bigger leaves and stay a low growing plant as it grows and the cucumbers, with smaller leaves, will grow taller and begin to grow tendrils. You will quickly see a difference, you might even see the difference now.

It's been ages since I posted here. Still not actually got in to the allotment yet Hoping the next 2-3 weeks. It had been abandoned for 10-12 years and when they went to clear the area they discovered lots of dumped stuff including barrels of oil/chemicals so it seems to have taken forever to get it cleared and for the contamination tests to come back as clear.

I really need to be thinking of getting some seeds sown in little pots ready for the off.

Thanks for that! My cucumbers are still rather small at presen, much smaller than the courgettes. Does it take them a while to get going? I still have them in relatively small pots as there is no sign of the roots yet.

I finally have some life from my parsnip seeds, they took WEEKS though!

I am a little bit sad, I have lost everything I planted in one of my raised beds. It has become a cat toilet. I don't know what to do to keep them out! :(

Well I'm glad to hear that Alcmene - I'm patiently waiting for signs of life from the parsnips I planted at the same time as Brocolli and Sprouts and while the others are going great, still no sign from the parsnips.

Can you not put some netting over the bed to deter the cats?? I have part of mine fenced off with wire and then plenty of plastic bottles being used for cloches and have yet to have any problem with the cats that visit.
