Garlic also looking good
Quick question - I've heard that sometimes garlic doesn't split, how do you know? will I only find out at harvest time?
Garlic needs a frost to split so if you've planted them and had a frost, they will split. It needs a long growing season and most people plant in November. I forgot mine and it'll go in this weekend, will be eating it as green garlic and not for storing.0 -
have three half baskets on fence with salad leaves, one with seeds germinating, one with healthy little seedlings and the other will have established salad leaves, once I've visited farm shop later - they are selling established plants for silly low prices..
If you are planting out as seed, have you covered them so the birds dont get in? A bit of my net has blownm off, I think they have had my new pea seeds:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi everyone,
please can anyone tell me if it's too late to sow some cucumber seeds? I thought you could only grow them in a greenhouse but then I saw Alys Fowler on this weeks 'Edible Gardens' prog and as I lurve cucs & wanted to grow some but fear I've left it too late this year.TIA
Hoping for a very sunny weekend in the garden - happy growing folks0 -
What a lovely day for being out gardening!
I've been out repotting my new tomato plants and putting my strawberries into their planter. (I'll still bring them in at night for a while yet, esp as I still haven't sorted out the plastic greenhouse.)
I was also putting the last of my primulas into a planter for out the front. They've been sitting in the back garden for ages and when I started picking the pots up out of the carry tray I kept finding slugs on the bottom of the pots *shudders*. I nearly grabbed my toms and strawberries to take them to safety! :rotfl:
I have pictures of little Mission Impossible or Kung Fu slugs trying to get at my plants.... Maybe I've had too much sun!
I'll have to think of a (cheap) way of keeping them off my pots later on. I'm thinking maybe strips of sandpaper stuck round the pots...? Mummy to an amazing little girl0 -
My dig in seeds came woo hoooo.
However I already have the seeds from other sources now. Oops. I have managed to find homes for them all though amongst my friends so they won't go to waste.0 -

I'm the one who managed to kill cress if anyone remembers my post
I asked about my courgettes which are growing really well. I managed to see a one reply before it all disappeared which said I needed to re pot them NOW!! I haven't as of yet, but will be going to get some bits tomorrow and will do them over the weekend.
Would they be better off in a growbag (and if so, I assume I just open it, pop one or two of the 'plants' in there and treat as normal) or would pots be better?
The same with tomatoes and peppers (although they're not ready yet)
Thanks for your help
Sorry I don't know about courgettes as I'm gonna plant mine in pots but tomatoes and peppers do well in grow bags.
HTH and good luck0 -

It's not too late at all! In fact, it's just about the right time to be sowing cucumbers. You can get outdoor varieties of cucumbers and they don't need the male flowers to be picked off. This year I am growing Marketmore and Crystal Lemon outside and Socrates F1 in the greenhouse0 -
