My cousin lives in Appleby and thats exactly what she does! She says its a nightmare lol
It's only what a number of Edinburgh folk do when the festival is on as well though. Mind you, they rent their houses out to tourists at the festival.[/QUOTE]
Edinburgh folk do it to make huuuuuuuge amounts of money out of gullible tourists though - not because they are scared people may wreck their property or other such mischiefs!0 -
I completely agree with you Tartantotty.
Just along from where I used to work there was a bit of open green space which travellers set up camp on, when they moved on it was disgusting!! It must have taken loads and loads of skips to clear the rubbish, they even left behind a dead dog!!! (This was not just hearsay it was reported in the local newspaper and the RSPCA were involved).0 -

Of course these would have been travellers...not Gypsys....blah blah blahFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Well I saw it... hugely romanticised view of travellers, but hilarious dresses!0

Same thing. Travellers, gypsies. Just don't call them gypos or !!!!!!, they don't like that apparently.0 -
Caught up on this prog on the net. What I couldn't understand was why all the young girls were half dressed. Especially as they were meant to be so pure and moral.
I just don't get this phenomenom in general, maybe it's just me.."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

Is blatant racism acceptable, even allowed on MSE?
There is a halting site (Traveller site) about 3 miles (maybe less from me), not a problem or issue, you wouldn't know it was there as you drive past if you didn't know.0 -
You could walk out of your house and be mugged - and that could be by a black, Muslim, traveller, Caucasian, or any other race you could think of. In any population there are good and bad people. Unfortunately the bad tend to gets reported (think teenagers). I have worked with a few traveller families and I have always found them to be friendly good people, and although I was scared initially (due to listening to prejudice) in time I formed my own opinions. I will treat them with no less wariness than I would of any other race.
All populations do things differently, why can't we embrace that? I think we could learn some things about community spirit from the traveller population.0
