Astra Issues After Installing Car Stereo

Options
Okay, so we bought an Astra 1998 a couple of months ago.

It came with a Sony CD player already installed. OH didn't want this. He still had the stereo from his old car so he removed the old one.

However, he's just installed the new one but now the car is doing weird things.

It won't lock remotely anymore and whenever OH opens the driver door, the car beeps.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

After paying £300 the other week for the manifold to be replaced, we really can't afford for anything else to go wrong with the car so soon. :(

Never had any problems with an Astra before, wiring is boringly normal and simple. What make of radio have you installed ands what car was it removed from ?

Does it all work ok if you take the stereo back out again?
  • i had a Astra with the same fault , after tuning the radio in and you take the keys out of the car does the radio loos its memory ?

if it does then you need to swap the yellow and red around and every thing should work

The make is a Sendai and it was removed from a Ford Fiesta 1996 Classic. However, it wasn't the original stereo and someone at Halfords installed it for us.

It does! So it's definitely the stereo that's causing it.

We haven't tuned the radio yet (OH hates the radio lol) but apparently there are only red and white wires or something.

Get it back to Halfords and have them fix their mess. Ford ICE and Vauxhall aren't straight swaps.
(You seem to be lucky that the poor fitting hasn't already damaged the unit or your car).

Halfords didn't install this one, the OH did.

There would have been an adapter harness on the rear of the stereo anyway to mate it up with the ford connectors (why they dont use standard ones I'll never know) and since they fitted it into the Fester rather than the Astra they wont do anything without charging!

If you are still having probs, look up an auto electrician in the yellow pages or whatnot. bet they'll have it sorted in a jiffy :D

It is a universal aftermarket unit that would have used a converter cable.

Does the Sendai have a 16 pin ISO socket (actually a pair of 8 pin) directly in the back of the unit or is it on the end of a set of cables that are wired to a smaller plug that is in the back or go directly into the unit.
