The "Search Electoral Roll" site is a joke - to request removal you must supply them with documentation that would enable identity theft:

    http://www.searchelectoralroll.co.uk/Record_Removal_Request.asp?record=remove

    Also they say:

"We provide a secure record removal page that is fully encrypted to ensure your personal information is processed securely. We are regulated and notified under the UK data protection act."

Notice how the page I've linked to is not encrypted. Also, what does it even mean to be "regulated" under the UK's DPA?!

You have to opt out with local council to stop them selling on your details, not opt out with a commercial organisation that already has your details

A commercial organisation that is flouting data protection laws and asking for sensitive documentation that can be used to steal one's identity. ;)

Sorry to drag this thead up, but I found some information behind the guy who runs this website is Ian Hurst (you can read about him here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Ingram).

Here's a couple of links to look at:

    www. tribunemagazine. org/2015/10/old-spooks-unmasked-on-shropshire-voters-list/

    electoralrollscam. blogspot. co.uk/

Also with regards to removal from his site, I agree it seems rather odd that they require a fair amount of additional information for the "FREE" service but don't if you call their premium helpline.
  • apologies for the format of the links. As a new user I can't post url's yet.
