Can school force child into a wheelchair?

I'm in Scotland, have an autisic spectrum son who has a split placement at a special school, and I have to say I can't fault the care and support he's received - nothing has been set up without my approval, although at times I had to be convinced certain support was the right option for him.
I think if you are getting no where with the school that you should approach the local education authority - the school are meant to accomodate individual children's needs and I think it's sad that they aren't even trying.Payment a day challenge: £236.69

But I sent my sons to mainstream schools which had EXACTLY the same effect on 'some people' - remember that if it's the right school for YOUR child, then those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.angelicmary85 wrote: »There's a real stigma surrounding this school, it's where all the 'spazzies' go...You just mention the name of the school to some people and the look ontheir faces says it all.
Then why not TELL people so when they give 'the look'.angelicmary85 wrote: »I've got no doubt in my mind that it's a great school
That, I grant you, would put me off too. But you have to consider whether it's LIKELY to happen - I know it can be different for 'special' children, but I've had children at school for 18 years now and only been 'summonsed' twice, which I don't think is bad going.angelicmary85 wrote: »but it's 30miles away and if anything was to happen/needed emergency contact or something then it'd take what would seem like ages to get there.
Hear hear! and I share your joy over being 'seen'!have you been there? seen for yourself? spoken to parent who send their kids there? why do 'some people' matter? surely its whats best for the child?

It could be that the special school will serve her needsd better than a mainstream school with stupid head!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
special schools are not to be dismissed. It could be that the special school will serve her needsd better than a mainstream school with stupid head!
I think the point she is trying to make with this school is that there's a dedicated team of people there for the kids with extra needs. Why should she have to move schools when there's already help available there?Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

yes I know what you mean angelic - and I DONT want to turn this thread into a special school v mainstream school. but, it sounds like this mainstream school is not looking out for the best interests of this child. unless there is some information we are missing here - the school seem determined to force the child to use a wheelchair when currently she doesnt need one!
as i have said - its down to the childs parents really to cave into the school or fight this. if they cave in, thats their right.
if not i am fully prepared to help if i can - especially as its the school your son will be going to in future.
