You never know, mum might just be grateful that someone else is prepared to help her fight, I know it's tiring because I'm battling with DS1's school at the moment. Why not talk with her and say you've been worried about her because you know this isn't what she wants and please can you help by finding information and support for her to achieve what the consultant recommends etc.
TBH I think a strongly worded letter from the consultant to the school about exactly what is in the child's best interests from a medical pov might do more good than anything else.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Really quick update as I should be working!
Phoned Capability Scotland who said the school cannot do what they are planning without first carrying out a risk assessment with an occupational therapist and any other health professionals that are involved with the care of the child in question...will double check with mum but she never mentioned a risk assessment.
The very helpful lady on the phone also sent a couple of links that she said may help. I've not cheked them out yet though as I had to get to work but will hopfully manage another quick update when I get home!Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

from what you have just said angelic, the process sounds similar if not identical to England and Wales, so the direct.gov site handbook would help, but, do you have a similar website in Scotland? silly me - I can look for myself! please tell the childs mum that we are all rooting for her and will help if we can! sometimes knowing you are not alone gives you the strength to battle on.0

wonder if anyone else on the forum has a similar tale? how did they get on?0

Hi, I've been thinking about this today. (I've nearly a 100 on the SEN Register at school so I can manage an extra one) Does this little girl have a Statement? I'm not sure if it's the same in Scotland.
If she does then she will have an Educational Psychologist. Where I work the EP is like God. Everything goes on their say so. I have written reports, done assessments, collected reports from everyone, etc, etc, but they all come to nothing until the EP report arrives. Mine is so busy that after she does observations and assessments it takes simply ages for the report to come. Once the reports, including the EP report, are sent in to the Local Authority we get an answer within a week and they ALWAYS go with what the EP says. If it is then written into the Statement that walking should be encouraged the school will have to make arrangements for this to happen as the statement is a legal document setting everything out.
I had an almost opposite case a couple of years ago. We (parents and teachers) wanted a child to walk but she point blank refused. Everyone, physio, OT, etc, tried to encourage her but she refused. She wasn't lazy, she just didn't want people to see her struggle. I could understand but we were concerned about muscle weakness and posture. Then she went to college and never used her chair again! ho, hum, that's why I love special ed - every day is different!Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0
