angelic - I havent yet looked at the links but the email seems to indicate this person has taken the situation on board - obviously cannot comment on individual cases and is pointing you in right direction. will look at links later when i have more time - am babysitting the terrible twins and their sister at mo - so may be tomorrow before i have time to read and digest!

    Hi Angelic,

Any news on the mother of the child? Has she made any decisions yet?

I just read back and heard that you have a little boy with down's. I can imagine why you are so traumatised by the way you and he were treated at the birth. Good for you for making a fuss. You want reassurance and encouragement when you discover your child has a medical issue, not to be kept in the dark and your's and his feelings totally ignored. I bet he's absolutely adorable.:D

I found my hospital crap too. 2 of the 3 midwives 'looking after' me (I was the only patient) were more interested in loud and b i t c h y gossip, and waking me up for pointless reasons if i dared to sleep (have you filled in your menu?/switching the light above my bed on.. etc).

The other favourite occupation of theirs was telling me I was breastfeeding 'wrong' and that I wasn't posting a letter through a postbox... This was baby#2 and I had done it before, but they knocked my confidence so much, I ended up in floods of tears of exhaustion and frustration. I gave DD a bottle. DH was astonished to see the difference in me from the happy person I was the day before, to the miserable and tearful wreck I was after the midwives had 'cared' for me.

I know a few people with children with special needs, and the general concensus is, you get to know who's opinion to trust (with regards to professionals) and who's to disregard.

Hope you and your little lad are ok, and good for you for taking such a heartfelt interest in your friend's situation.

    SFG x

    hi angelic,
not trying to take over your thread, but a little update on grandaughter. son had a letter from her consultant paediatrician today. the initial diagnosis is ADD but they did find something else which may be a contibuting factor - i cant remember the exact name of it but its something to do with the size of her head. there are to be more tests in may....
but the point of this is that copies of the letter were sent to her gp and the school and the consultant made a point of saying that she would be conferring with the school and the granddaughters teacher and 1 to 1 on updating her IEP.
not sure if this applies in scotland - but this, from what i have read about the disabled child and school is how things should be done!

I'm really glad she's getting helped in the correct way!

Well I have a little update of my own...

I've been dreading having to post this but I've known since Wednesday I just didn't want to have to say it - wee x's wheelchair has been ordered.

I explained to mum about the procedure that should be followed and she said that she asked the school about it but was told some of it was done 'behind closed doors' and the medical 'professionals' involved have all come to the same conclusion....Health & Safey is more important than a little's girls independance :(

That's dreadful Mary - did she ever contact Parent Partnership? I'm sure that they would have supported her and also looked at the legalities of going against the parents wishes. I'd still go ahead and contact them TBH.

How many 4 year olds can safely handle a powered wheelchair, without running over people and whatnot? Her using a wheelchair will mean more help.

I am sorry to hear this.:(
