awww angelic - thats dreadful!!! er - how can they be so barefaced as to TELL the mum it was done 'behind closed doors' surely that is a breach of procedure! I honestly got the impression from the literature on the IEP process that it is all done with the full knowledge of the parent......or did i skip the part which said ''but in any event the headmaster will make the final decision''??? tbh, I am not sure i believe him!!! about the consultants being in full agreement i mean. any way your friend can check?
something doesnt smell right here. Is your friend the type who wont make waves?? because i certainly wouldnt let this rest there.
what do you think Angelic? is the mum overestimating this childs abilities? or the headmaster being a D*ck head?0 -

I gave her a list of all the website addresses and phone numbers I could get my hands on but I tihnk it was all in vain to be honest. How many 4 year olds can safely handle a powered wheelchair, without running over people and whatnot? Her using a wheelchair will mean more help.
I am sorry to hear this.:(
Thanks, I don't know how they expect x to manage.I seriously cannot believe that:mad:

They didn't tell her outright that it'd been decided 'behind closed doors'...what they'd said was they'd 'had a meeting' and that was it.
I don't think she's over-estimating x's ability to be independant. X does get tired at times but it's usually towards the end of the afternoon.
She's definitely the type who will make waves if need be!

so, has child Xs mum accepted this dictat or does she intend to battle it? if she does I will help all i can from here!
my blood boils at this!!! really, it sickens me!!! I have seen how hard kids try to be 'normal' and the school have done something which is so harmful to this childs self-esteem, i really would like to go round to the school, strap this stupid woman into a wheelchair then take her on a trip round a busy school followed by a trip to a shopping mall followed by a swift kick in her rear end!
i really hope your friend fights this decision - I get the feeling that you would if it were your child - and i sincerely hope yours is NOT going to attend this school!0 -

Mum feels she now really doesn't have a choice as it's either this or the 'special' school. She plans to pop into the school randomly to see if x is in the chair during class.
Mine will have to attend. There aren't many school where we live and the only other option would be 'special' school. The difference between mum and I now though is that I'm armed with the knowledge she wasn'tStarted PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

angelic - there is still time if your friend wants to fight this decision - but if she has caved in and wont budge - then you have tried your best!!!
my heart bleeds for this poor kid.
yes, at least you are warned - and armed and probably dangerous!
can i ask why the 'special' school is a no-no? at least they wont make the child feel different to everyone else?
near me is a special school which parents are actually fighting to get their child into - their reputation is so good some of the kids come from many miles away! and with a headmistress like that i wonder if that school is the best place for her?0 -

There's a real stigma surrounding this school, it's where all the 'spazzies' go...You just mention the name of the school to some people and the look ontheir faces says it all. I've got no doubt in my mind that it's a great school but it's 30miles away and if anything was to happen/needed emergency contact or something then it'd take what would seem like ages to get there. If it turns out that my wee man is in need of extra assistance then I might consider it.Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

have you been there? seen for yourself? spoken to parent who send their kids there? why do 'some people' matter? surely its whats best for the child? my nephew goes to a special school as he is severely autistic - its the best thing for him - he now speaks and interacts with people the school were wonderful he actually sees me now instead of blanking me. the difference in that child - before the school he was uncomunactive - violent - trashed his room regularly, was a total nightmare. now he is much more receptive, he sees people and will interact, his room is still bare as he still gets violent episodes, but he is more able to intereact - and he sees me! this is more important than you may think - i am on the periphaphy of his life - he thought my OH was his dad as they look alike (his dad died when he was only a few months old and my OH looks very much like his bro) but he always blanked me. since he went to the special school he has slowly started to see me and interact with me. and now he is starting to realise my OH isnt his dad. this is due to the school - my SIL thinks the school is fantastic and so do we - as we have seen the results. I cant tell you how good they have been - from one kid who was a total nightmare - to one who is manageable with advice from the school. so to me - special schools are not to be dismissed. It could be that the special school will serve her needsd better than a mainstream school with stupid head!0
