I think they should just activate the following clause from their T&Cs and draw a random winner:

T&C No 14 "In the event of fraud, abuse, and/or an error affecting the proper operation of this competition, including the allocation of more prizes than are available, O2 reserves the right to end or suspend the competition; amend these terms & conditions; declare void the notification of winner(s); and/or to allocate available prizes by conducting a simple draw from all wrongly allocated winners. "
  • I just wanted to give some more background on our decision to keep running the game, removing the ducks affected by the technical glitch from the leaderboard.

We spent a lot of time investigating the cause of the fault, who it affected and what is the fairest way of resolving this. Out of the many thousands of people who have played the game, only a very small number were affected by the glitch. We have considered a variety of options including restarting the game and choosing a winner at random. But in the end we had to choose the option which is fairest for the vast majority of people playing the game. We believe this is to put everyone's ducks back in their rightful place so that the leaderboard reflects everyone's actual game play.

We're very sorry for the disappointment this has caused to those affected by the glitch.

What about the people whos ducks have not been effected by the glitch, have put in times that ARE possible, and yet aren't on the leaderboard? Or have been removed from it?

I can prove my time was both valid and glitch free, I can run the math behind it that shows it is not just possible but entirely feasible, and yet it isn't registered, and isn't submitting. I emailed in the week, was told they were looking into it, and haven't heard anything back at all. I really don't have any faith in the right thing being done here, and feel like I'll be penalised because I worked out how to submit a fast time in very few updates due to the flawed mechanics of the game.

I've also just checked the first duck I did, because I was sure this was faster than most on the leaderboard, and lo and behold, it's average is 114, and yet it's in position 300+, yet should be 4th on the new leaderboard?

I totally disagree with your thinking Nick. Many of us actually gave up competing for the prize and just raced for fun when we saw the leaderboard which remained unchanged for ages. You must have know for WEEKS there was a problem so wait until we couldn't register another duck to race again before coming on here or changing the leaderboard? :embarasse

I totally disagree with Nick as well. O2 will certainly be receiving some very bad publicity and I am going to make sure they do! Have already contacted the office of fair trading so a full investigation into this will hopefully be shortly carried out. You should have seen the e-mail Nick sent me yesterday I couldn't stop laughing. He stated that they could not re-run the competition due to commercial reasons but above he has stated that they thought about re-running the competition but thought the fairest way would be to carry on the competition. You're a liar Nick and I will be sending all e-mails to the office of fair trading!!!
  • the FAIREST way would be to iron out all the problems with the program and start again... if they claim they can't re-run it due to "commercial reasons" then that can ONLY be because it wont slot in neatly with the rest of their marketing campaign... why else?

I wish I'd never got involved with this bloody stupid competition in the first place. If I hadnt wasted 5 days of my life trying to play a game that didnt work properly then maybe I wouldnt care. At least if they de-glitched it and re-ran it then everybody would have a fair chance, even if it takes a year or so to iron out the problems.

I participate in loads of comps. loads and loads, but never have i felt so p1ssed off about one as i do about the o2 one.

Did you ever consider that you in fact ran two races in one. One without glitches for those who raced ducks individually and one with glitches for those who raced more than one duck at the same time? Perhaps you should have considired two winners for the two types of races that you created!

Just adding my 5 penneth .
I've just fed my finished duck and he has dropped by 24000 + places and the days have changed too from 6 & few hours to 18 days 6rs +. I raced my first duck and fed him sometimes 12 times an hour spent many hours day and into the night I kept his speed topped up at 126 constant. so cannot understand my top up numbers, I expected it to be around 500 and yet it was in the 200s? Not Possible. at times I spent hours topping up every 5 minutes. I was checking my averages with distance travelled and distance to go at a constant speed throughout the race and the results at the end didnt add up for me.
DH tried a duck to test this out and we treated him even better having seen the first finish times. Then we saw the impossible leaders stats & abandoned him with 2 days to go because it was so obviously unfair and an absolute waste of many hours with no possibility of winning.
I registered my first duck and got a verification mail. the link didnt work. I messaged them on the help address and had no response, so I re registered with another email and started racing.. This has been a shambles from start to finish. At least in the Orange Balloon race last year you had a fair chance.

Am in absolute agreement with you. I gave up on my beloved duck having any chance of finishing first because of the leader board. I think Quacky Races has a lot to answer for. It's a bit like the telephone voting scandal. Doesn't do o2 any favours either. On a more positive note I won a book. Wow that makes up for the duck thing NOT!!!!

I had this with my first duck too - it did do the race though at the minimum speed of 63 as it was never topped up. It took exactly 10 days so I suppose, in theory, if the top speed is 126 the minimum time would be 5 days?
