So as there's been a mass culling of the leaderboard, and my duck still isn't on it, I'll tell you how it's actually possible to achieve a far faster time in less updates, because if the leaderboard stays as it is the game is complete !!!!!!!! because legitimate times have been ruled out.

Firstly, the nice little speedo isn't your current speed. Reread the tag, it's "average speed since last top up". That means that what that dial says when you update, is the speed you get for the ENTIRE period since you last updated.

This is pretty damn stupid, because it means an optimal setting of 70/50/30 at the start of the update period is useless, you want it at the end, and it's entirely counter intuitive to the process of an average speed. Everyone (including me to start) rightly thought that when you set the highest speed you need to keep it at that, only an idiot would decide that average speeds work by just taking the speed you're going at the end.

To get a fast time in less updates is pretty trivial when you know the rate at which the attributes drop, they work on the princaple of a half life, after x amount of time, they will have halved. So you can work out what you need to set them to, and how long you need to go, before they'll drop down to 70/50/30 and you can update at an average speed of 126.

If you try to keep the speed at 126 you are wasting your time. Not least because you only need to get to 126 once (before you update) but because the game is buggy in that any time from when the game updates the stats (which happens either when you open the page, or after x amount of minutes), to when you hit the submit button, doesn't count in your distance covered, but DOES count towards the time taken.

This is why many people have kept their ducks at 126, but had rubbish times, they've been updating and losing time because the game hadn't recalculated the right distance.

So in short, it's entirely possible to go 3 hours between updates, have your speed drop to 126, and then update to cover the entire 3 hour period at 126knots.

    That's what I did, but apparently o2 don't think I should have.

Sorry, no. Only the winner gets a prize.

  • Nick - I have been disputing my finish time since the 04.03 and have always been told you would get back to me, that time was 4-23-50-02 and after the clitch it put me on 5-01-20 which every one saw as me in 2nd, but my dispute as been to reclaim the no. 1 position. I would like PROOF that my time as of today 5-01-20 contained any clitches as i had already lost time due to one, this as been requested several times today via e-mail.

The lady who called me direct said that my duck had a clitch and my actual true finish time was 5-01-20 and she said her words not mine, that it would not be fair on the current leader to make them 2nd after 2 weeks of being at the top, was this then fair on me i asked her, of which she responded to say you can have 2 free tickets as a good will gesture.

She also stated that it was possible to finish on 68 top ups as the current leader had done, i asked for an explanation and she could'nt give me one, what a surprise you have also removed this person.

Strange after i mailed quacky races about this particular forum and the certain people that were making comments that you now appear on it, giving this statement.

Yes O2 people you know who you are.

Proof is all i'm after should'nt be too hard for you as you've had 3 weeks to find some, so please forward it, you know my next step.

I've already explained how this is possible.

The game treats current speed and average speed synonymously. It's entirely stupid, but it's how it works.

Over top the ducks, lets the levels drop down to the ones that give 70/50/30, and you can top up again nearly 3 hours later when it says the average speed is 126 and get nearly 3 hours of traveling at 126knots. It's dumb, but it's how it works.

I read average speed as average speed all along.

If it is your final speed that counts as your average speed the competition should be re-run as it is very misleading.

Off to have a play now.

EDIT: PS I have no chance of winning, I just want to know how this works.
  • DoJive - your wrong, mileage it moves you forward depends on the speed you are doing since last top up, this mileage top up varies. i'm not interested in the person who top up 68 times i'm interested in getting the proof relating to my finished time that's all.

Looks like 02 are gonna have (Easter) egg :easter_ba all over their face. I would never have thought about taking a screen shot so good luck to those guys who should have been in the running but unfairly "disqualified" by 02's error (I'm still not sure how they can justify this when it's their fault?). Don't get too stressed guys and I hope the Easter Bunny is kind to you x

I'm not wrong, and have since confirmed 100% that I'm right. The mileage it moves you forward depends solely on 2 things, the speed you're going when you next top up, and the time since you last topped up.

When you hit the submit button the game works out how far your attributes have decayed since you set them, and uses the new ones to get the speed you're going at now, and uses that speed to work out the distance. It's simply that speed * the time since you last topped up that gets added to your distance.

Sorry for the length of this, thought I'd post it just in case anyones as mental about how things work as I am.

I've not done the maths yet but I have taken some screen dumps and have to say from 1st glance DoJive may be right.
I can't add the screen dumps, but in case anyone wants some figures here they are.

I overclocked my duck a few hours ago and then just left it running, refreshing the screen just before taking a screen dump every so often.
    It had done 3365 miles in 1d 22h 7m 59s and started at 93 knots immediately after a top-up
After ~1hr it had gone 3469 miles in 1d 23h 7m 36s and average speed box said 104 knots
After ~2hrs it had gone 3579 miles in 2d 00h 2m 21s and average speed box said 112 knots
After ~3hrs it had gone 3714 miles in 2d 01h 2m 06s and average speed box said 120 knots
After ~3.75hrs it had gone 3820 miles in 2d 01h 51m 28s and average speed box said 122 knots
After ~3.75hrs (again) it had gone 3817 miles (BACKWARDS) in 2d 01h 51m 57s and average speed box said 121 knots
After ~12.25hrs it had gone 4410 miles in 2d 10h 25m 26s and average speed box said 85 knots

Like I say, I've not done the maths.

But as after 3 hours I had an average of 122 knots EITHER I must have been going over 122 knots for some time, so even though my duck was saying it was full and couldn't swim fast enough it was actually accellerating OR DoJive is right and the calculation is based on actual speed just before top up and not an average speed.

I think, to be 100% fair, they should amit there was a technical fault, fix the glitch and re-start the comp. But doubt they will :(

PS good luck anyone in with a chance of winning. xx
PPS will do the maths tomorrow (for my own peace of mind more than anything, won't bother boring you all with it)...off to footy soon.
