all good ideas but a word of caution. Its important to remember that the reason these guys want to talk to you/us and make a programme/ run a story is beacuse they want to sell it. Good stories are ones where they get a lot of interest and hence lots of money! Try really hard to resist being sucked it to believing that they are trying to help YOU because, whilst they are very happy for that to be a by-product, in all reality its not why they do it.

I would be very interested in persuing the legal angle. I reckon I'm £40k worse off in cash as a result of my builder. The solicitor I consulted reckoned we'd have a solid claim for in the region of £100k when we took into account compensation for time off work,inconvenience, impact on our lives etc BUT the case could cost up to £50k to fight (min of £5k) and there was no chance of me getting the money, given he's already got thousands in outstanding CCJs, even if I won. We have instead taken one small part- just the boiler- and done a small claim court action for £5k. I'll let you know if we win. the point is that the legal system a) hinders me me going after him, b) doesn't make him pay. Like mike I could get a charge on his house but would have to wait for him to die to get my money.

Not necessarily when he dies either!

Thanks pebbythedog... depends how it's owned with anyone else - wife, child, relative... and a couple of other things he's sure to know about.

I think I've found a way of overcoming most of the likely objections by a judge and I'll talk about them here once it's tied up.

Mike, If anyone could win a case when success has only 0.4% chance, I believe it would be you! Do you know if you'll be likely to have a different judge when it reaches court? The one before made some very biased remarks if I remember rightly. :cool:

Anyway, since the One Show and after reading your post thanking your Sons for the strength they've given you and how proud you are of them, my main hope is that you are chosen by a producer and that your home is completed as soon as possible! :beer: A chance to get your life back!

Evening all...

I had a further call from a programme which may be interested. Still early days but positive, and they're keen to expose the errant builder, which is always a good thing. I shall let you know when there's more to report.

Lots going on in the background here. Thanks to those who have been in touch. For obvious reasons I can't give details yet but it's all going well. Just not much I can say publicly.
