That would have been excessive. Two stickers is fine.

I have to admit I haven't had the energy to read the whole thread so not sure if this has already been mentioned and discussed...

But have you thought about walking away from the house and declaring yourself bankrupt? Yes it's unfair, yes you shouldn't have to... but your health and your childrens health is clearly at stake here... It WOULD be a pity to leave the hosue you have obviously done a lot of work on already etc but it would leave you a clean slate...

Then you could move away from the house and it's constant reminders of these problems, you could rent a flat that like the cat lady's is warm, dry and lovely...

    Just a thought obviously :)

Thanks. I considered it briefly but where would I live? Why do I want to be bankrupt? (Haven't seen much advantage to that and it's all IVAs these days anyway). How would I pay bills with only income support for income? How would I be able to rent a flat?

I guess it's a stubbornness in me. I don't ever give up on something if it seems important. This is frustrating because I don't seem able to win whatever I try. I have done OK in the past with my approach. This has done me in but I know if I get the money I will be able to relax and be contented until the next problem comes along. I don't handle stress as well as some people. I think I would always feel I had failed. Just me I guess.

Not enough brain cells are still awake in my head to do much thinking but I do see your viewpoint re: bankruptcy.

I wonder if the house were to be declared unfit for habitation, would you be rehoused? However, I somehow don't think it's that easy for a bloke to get housing - and anyway, it's your house and potentially your lovely house - I wouldn't want to let go either, if it were me.

Wishing you a peaceful night :)

    Thank you very much!

I don't think people get rehoused if they own their own homes. Or it would take years. I might not like the house they were offering! I think I'll try and keep myself focused on getting what I want. I bought this cottage because I just loved it on sight and could see what it could be. Maybe I should post some pix here.

I had a big f-off executive 5-bed job four years ago before the world started coming apart at the seams. It was all I had ever wanted. Now my cottage is all I will ever want. I've changed my priorities over the past few years. Less IS more. I just don't feel comfy with this much less! If this is the universe teaching me a lesson, then I think I get the point!

Hey Mike, hope you had a better day today.

Sorry I don't have anything new to add but just thought I'd drop by and let you know I'm still thinking of you.

Remember, spring is just around the corner so hopefully it will start to get warmer. I know what it's like to live in a cold house (I don't have central heating), I've never been so healthy as germs/viruses are unable to survive in these temperatures! I now sleep in my lounge where the temperature reaches a high of 15 degrees! Yay!

Does your cottage have any land where you could maybe grow some fruit/vegetables? I am totally useless in the garden (scared of birds, butterflies, moths, slugs, snakes, mice, leaves - anything I see move out the corner of my eye I jump a mile) - I'm a nervous wreck out there! So garden is a bit of a jungle atm. I was thinking of advertising it as free* to use as a fruit/vegetable plot on the website spareground.com (apparently allotments are very popular atm and there are waiting lists of up to 2 years to get a plot on one in some areas).

Free* = use of land in return for a small amount of produce.

Is this something you could consider? I mean growing your own or offering it out?

I am at the thinking stage atm as I am a bit of a hermit (I don't mix too well with humans - they tend to hurt you or die on you).

Maybe something for you to think about?

    Hope that helps.

poosmate, thats an excellent idea about your garden, I have been on a allotment list for 3.5 years, and I am currently 7 on the list, I started at 26. You should ask for produce in return for renting your garden out.

Thanks Washer, it's just plucking up the courage to get the word out and following through the agreement. I'm sure it would be fine but sometimes it's just hard to do things.

Check out the site though Washer, you may find somewhere in your area:

    Hope that helps.
