OOOOO - can everyone keep their fingers and toes crossed please? We have made an offer on a house to rent. Eeeee. Letting agents haven't managed to get hold of Landlord yet but we offered what they wanted so fingers crossed. It's about 200 metres from where we are now and almost next door to where we lived 5 months ago. After looking for 3 week and finding nothing as well!
Also I saw some workman today and was really, really impressed. They had coned off a busy junction but had it exceptionally well managed - they were martially the traffice around the junction, they had temporary traffic lights that were working and everybody was busy scuttling around getting the road resurfaced as quick as humanly possible - very strange, I thought I was seeing things or it was April the 1st or something - I even watched them for 10 minutes while waiting for the bus I was sooooo shocked.
See you later.

Please don't even joke about it, Mike! I already have 2 cats and when I looked in the understairs cupboard earlier, a load of carrier bags fell out.
There is only the hat left now!
Yours,
Worrried of Hampshire
I have the house rabbit, I was just bemoaning the lack of carrier bags as I managed to recycle a surplus yesterday... and have my hair in a towel! (Hats don't suit me).
I would like to say I haven't got to the purple hat stage yet, but have to admit I've quite possibly overshot it.Miggy

Hi all and Belle, I still lurk on the thread from time to time but have just lost the will to live right now. Its the second time the insurance company have been back to fix the drain and its still crap. I cant get anyone to come and quote me for work (to put a new bathroom in) nor to do any small jobs and even the tradesmen I have found have a bloody slack attitude as to when they will come and do work. I am just not used to working with people with this mentality. Somehow, I think I had better get used to it. I am very pi55ed off.
But Poo - I found a penny!!!!0 -
Have you tried checkatrade? they have like a local directory listing local tradespeople - well they do around here anyway.
Also perhaps trading standards will have a list of reputable companies to deal with? they might be popular so you might have to wait but I would have thought that may be a good thing - as in they are busy as they are good (IYSWIM).

I dont have a problem waiting, I have a problem trying to pin them down or phoning me back. The thing is they dont want a can of worms like a renovation. They want nice and easy take bathroom out, put new one in, not create one from scratch. I just cant believe I have to chase people to give me a quote! I feel like some nagging wife!
Will try both places, thanks df. I seem to be more a funny shade of pink than bright red right now.
Hope all is well with everyone. DG, hope it all went well x0 -

Think of the car tax as a means to spending time with the boys, if it helps. Also trips to the dentist I guess, but you don't want to focus on that.
If you are in a mood for heartening talk, the DIY skills you gain will save you the cost of the builder, and a penny saved is a penny earned, etc.
On the other hand, if you are not in the mood for heartening talk, you can hit the computer very hard with a cushion and pretend it's me. I can take it.and anyway I'm off to work in a minute so you won't get me.

Ahh yes but if you didn't have the backdated benefit you couldn't afford to get the car taxed or the other bits sorted.
It does sound like things are progressing - re work, seeing the boys etc. The tv show may throw up some interesting results, etc , etc although it is rather slow for you though.
What stage are you at re the builder lady showing you how to do it yourself or did that fall through? or do you need money for materials? am a bit behind - sorry.

Hi All,
Miggy, shame on me for forgetting to say hi to you! Like you, I'm forever trying to keep up with everyone and what's going on. How are you managing after waving goodbye to you DD & is it a permanant move or holiday? I don't think I could bear to let mine go! (annoying as he is at times! lol) Pity the poor girl he ever marries, I've created a lazy toad and will be the MIL from hell!
DFairy. Got everything crossed that can be crossed about the property you're hoping for! After all the stress, lucky to find an available property in the right location so I hope it works out just right for you! Good Luck!
Hey Red!...Oooh, walking on egg-shells here! Don't envy your situation, been there, done that, even got the purple hat! Lounge ceiling collapsed 2nd time (yes 2nd!) after DH flooded a new bathroom, (moved from downstairs to new location) Insurers repaired ceiling and coving...coving fell down 3 times!! Bathroom fitter/tiler sacked part way through job! Was never finished (10yrs ago). Really needs ripping out...floor needs levelling, walls not square, wasted £4000 to look total !!!!! One day, I'll try again...still not recovered from last attempt!
Never mind websites for good builders, I think the dodgy builders have a site with my address on it, they know an easy mark when they see it!...Hope things eventually work out better for you!PROUD MEMBER OF
