I was going to use up some spuds in a bake with onions bacon and make up a cheese sauce. Should I cook the bacon first or just chop it up uncooked?

i would just chop it and throw it in, altho i always steam my taties first cause i find they go a wee bit hard, were having this for lunch cause i had abit of philly and bacon to use upDEC GC £463.67/£450

If you cook the Bacon first, then it will give your dish a more intense flavour; but you don't actually need to cook it for H&S reasons.0

for mine i just scrubbed and sliced taties and chopped bacon boiled it for 5 mins, chopped and onion, put the taties and bacon in a casarole dish put onion on top and poured over some watered down philly (you can do this in a cup in boiling water no need to faff about with a pan) with some garlic powder, chives and pepper (was about half a mug full but i only made a little one for me and the 3 kiddies) then 2 tablespoons of natural yogurt (u don't really need this either i was just using it up) topped with cheese and put it in the oven, it was lovelyDEC GC £463.67/£450

I made some White sauce with butter flour and milk, added grated cheese, layered sliced potatoes in a dish with onions and bacon then poured over the cheese sauce. I have finished with a top layer of potatoes and have covered with tin foil ready to bake in the oven later for about an hour or so.
Not really my recipe just thrown together!;)0 -
Hi squeakysue,
Now that you've made your potato bake I've added your thread to the main one as your question may help others.
