Cheers for that I have just copy and pasted into my online 'misers cook book' which is full of cheapo recipes
  • That sounds quite nice. I don't remember him making it. But do remember the "Get down Shep"lol

I think it was Blue Peter that also showed a recipe for Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake. Everyone was going "urghhh" but it turned out to be the most moist and yummy cake I ever made. I still use the recipe regularly and it is the cake most often requested of me for family gatherings.

The recipe is easy to find via a google search. It uses a 7 oz jar of mayonnaise - not salad cream or low fat mayo since the jar takes the place of the fat and eggs in a standard recipe.

I've never had the recipe fail yet, kids love to help in the making and as an added bonus, youngsters giggle like crazy when they tell Daddy that it's got mayonnaise in it!

PS Don't tell Daddy about the mayo before he tastes it. He has to say "mmm, lovely" before the secret ingredient is revealed :-)

Why not? There are plenty of cake recipes that use oil instead of butter or marge. Mayo is just an emulsion of eggs and oil with a touch of salt and vinegar. I have recipes for cakes with vinegar in them too.

This sounds like a great recipe. Sounds versatile as well. I'll probably add some cheap bacon to appease my meat loving OH.

The chocolate cake recipe is here along with some other interesting cakes.
