Annoying isn't it? Do you have the same laptop?0 -
Ok, unlikely to be overheating, so look at the software settings, and check the aerials on the router is screwed in securely.
There is a 2007 updated wireless driver here:

look under display adapters.
To find the router ip address:
Click, start, then run, type
cmd
a black box will appear, type
ipconfig
the default gateway ip address is the one you need to look at router settings
Thanks, did this, ip address was 192.168.1.1 - replaced the 0 for a 1 in the link you gave earlier but got 404 error.0 -

Everything is screwed in tight on the router but if it wasn't, surely no one else in the house would be able to connect to it as easily as they do?
I will try downloading the driver, thank you.0 -
That worked, the ssid was already on enable. I said to save changes anyway and it told me my wireless network was connected which it was before I did it.0 -
This might be a bit "techie" but this program is quite good - http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider
You can use it to find out exactly what Wi-fi networks your hardware can "see" and signal strengths. You can see if, for example, your neighbours wifi router is broadcasting on the same channel as your own, and potentially causing interference there.

It hasn't asked me for one.0 -
This is going to be difficult to diagnose when it's working, try inssider when it fails.
Is everyone else using wireless?!!
