  • Watched a few more recently, some that can be let go.
Black Sea - really good based on sub full of nazi gold going down in WWII and treasure hunters looking for it.
The Call - wow really tense a police call handler gets a call from someone who's being kidnapped and tries to keep them on the line long enough to give them help and get them free.
Remember me - nice enough but found the ending really powerful so stick with this one. It does make you realise that if you want to do or say something, don't wait go for it.
Closer - a bit weird in places
The women - enjoyed but one watch.
Broken city - good strong film, DD1 recommended this as it a dog in it she liked. American pit bull. I know they are a band breed but dd is of the opinion there a no bad dogs just bad owners.

Think that's about it on the recent clear out, CS will be getting a visit from me at the weekend to off load a pile that have built up in the hall.

  • Still slowly working through the stash.
Watched return to me last night, a lovely film which I enjoyed - quite a sad story to begin with as starts with a young woman who is awaiting a heart transplant and a happily married couple the wife of which is involved in a hit and run. Won't spoil it incase anyone wants to watch it.
    This morning
Notes on a scandal really good strong story about a teacher who wmbarks on an affair with one of her pupils
Both were great but one watches do notes will go to the CS and return to me after lending to grown up kids will go to my mum.
Recently watched shutter island, found that a bit too creepy and confusing another CS donation.
Loved still Alice and the new Cinderella but they were loans so won't be staying as they have now been returned

Next year I plan to watch far more than we buy, and donate or pass on the one watchers

I stream HD movies - don't even have a DVD player since around 2008. Nor do I have Freeview HD,(won't pay the licence) cable or any kind of terestrial broadcast, set top box or other - just 4 apps on my TV.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Hi Dreamnine - brilliant, one day we'll get to where you are ;). Except that it might not be exactly legal not to have a license if you own a TV I think. Has that changed?
In case you feel like sharing what you have watched, there are 2 good threads on here.

Have you seen any good films lately? and

Have you enjoyed any good boxed sets or series lately?

  • On the plus side of getting rid we found a CS that would accept the video tapes so they took 800 off our hands. We do have some left that Dh didn't want to part with but it's a much more manageable amount which fits into one box.

Happy new year all and I hope we get lots watched and less in during the new year.

    Welcome hedgesparrow,
I'm still plodding through our DVD stash
Last night watched an inconvenient truth -al gore documentary on global warming. Interesting but a one watch.
Night before watched the night listener, Robin Williams in a suspense film he was a night radio dj, who may be in a phone friendship with an abused child or it could have been a hoax made up my a woman claiming to be the child's foster mum.
Both are in the CS box.

    Welcome, hedgesparrow!
I'm still on my last month with lovefilm but I am actually looking forward to this ending because of the 60 % price hike by amazon. I have too many dvds to list and also still own vhs movies. I've now rearranged my tv set-up so I can plug the old player back in. I'll be back on here soon with a progress report, can't wait to shift the old stuff!

  • Not been on here for ages - sounds like everyone is doing well. Am working thru my DVDs pretty well since the new year. Watched 9.
Some are one watch films and are going to the cs:
    Life and lyrics
    Nights at Rodanthe
    Remember Me
    It's complicated
    My super ex girlfriend

There are a few to keep:
    One day
    Sixty six
    Eat, Pray, Love

And Looking for Eric is in limbo at the moment - I'm not sure whether I'll watch it again or not so its staying at the moment.

To clear space I put all my DVDs in folders and the boxes are in the loft so when i went on holiday I filled a small folder with unwatched films - these are what I'm working through. When everything in the folder has been watched I'll find the boxes of the discard pile and restock the folder. Its making it much easier to pick a film to watch!
No more buying books Books in 2016 = 20.
    Target for 2018 = 7/21
No more buying DVDs ? 2018 target 27/52
