Natwest Current Plus

Recently applied for Current Plus in branch, got it accepted.
Received letter confirming my new account details
Received letter saying thanks blah blah
Received letter with PIN number and a card would be sent shortly
Received letter today saying account had been closed due to not meeting their criteria.
So be careful before you start using the new account - I found out to my cost as I was advised to give the new account details to my employer. So it is a bit embarrassing in asking them to update my details again.

There isn't too much difference between step and current plus these days anyway. Both issue visa debits with current plus's being an offline one but the online one works in most places anyway, current plus issues a cheque book but cheques are dead and current plus allows an overdraft but that is subject to status anyway.
I don't know why natwest don't do away with step, offer current plus to all but tailor it's facilities to match the credit score
It all depends on your credit score at the time of application if you get the Purple Offline Debit Card or the Blue Full-Auth Card.
I know it's stupid, as long as you get accepted for the Current Plus account you will get the Cheque Book but the Offline Card is not always guaranteed.
When I first joined NatWest in 2006 before the Visa Debit change I got the then full Servicecard 100 (Switch) I closed the account down and moved to Lloyds TSB instead.. When I decided to try and apply to NatWest I was given the Current Plus Account again, Cheque Book and the Blue Visa Debit Card. I did run the account well, without charges etc and kept asking if they could upgrade the card but the system would not let me.. I think its to do with the defaults that I got since which stopped it. I could not use the Blue Visa Debit Card on trains etc so I just moved back to Lloyds TSB.
If you get the Blue Debit Card you have to run the account in good working order to start building up the internal credit score and keep checking every few months in branch to see if it will let you order the offline card.David

This is an old thread, but newuser78, it sounds like the dreaded Natwest/RBS AVU (Application Verification Unit) has seen something they dont like on your credit files, or discrepancies in your application details. This seems to happen quite a lot, people getting account details and welcome letters etc, then being told their account is closedDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Sorry Jen, you are right - I misread the dates!

No but it's been discussed on here more times than I've had hot dinners. Some of the best AVU threads seem to have vanished, well I can't find them anyway.
Basically, they're a department of the RBS group who vet apps once completed. They look at all the CRAs and places like National Hunter and if they don't like what they see, they swoop
