hi Spikey turkey is the best for grabbing a bargain especially good quality imitation designer lables we have been twice now and literally brought a suitcase full of stuff all of wich is as good today as it was then, i dont drink so dont know about booze, be carefull with dvds/games have heard a lot dont work here and when we went the ciggies were cheaper at airport than in town although even then they were soooo cheap!!! have just come back from spain 2days ago and ciggies have really gone up since christmas and they were MORE expensive at alicante airport than the local tabac
hope you have a fantastic time like we did0 -
Don't know if this might help but if you book your parking on-line, direct with bristol airport - http://www.bristolairport.co.uk/
As well as being the cheapest for parking there, you also get a £10 off voucher, to use in the "duty free".
Only catch is you have to spend £30 - but that makes it cheaper than pretty much any high street shop.
We flew at the turn of the month (I got to Germany for the World Cup and the wife went to see family with the kids!!!), so as I had "brownie points" to make up, the large botlle of perfume went down very well :T
It only cost £22 instead of the £32 - so the "true" price didn't matter, is was now far cheaper than the high street!
Hope this is of help,
Paul

I came through Rhodes airport last week. Blended scotch seemed a bargain at E22 for 2 litres of J&B or Grants. Hardly cheaper than the minimarkets though where two litres of Grants in lightweight plastic packs were E22.50.

I am going to Rome, flying to and from the Leonardo da Vinci Airport, in a couple of weeks, any top bargains recommended at the duty free shops?
We've just come back on Monday from Rome. I'm afraid that it was a mixed bag, local products such as the devine Limoncello liqueur was a good bargin but VSOP brandy and whisky were no cheaper than our Tesco. Chocolate as always was really expensive but perfume was at competative prices - so Lady G informs me!! Nb the prices for drink in the local Italian supermarkets are worth looking at.I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0 -

All I can tell you on this one is that duty free was available when I visited last year. buy at the airport. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ON ST. WENCESLAS SQUARE AND CERTAINLY DON'T GO NEAR THE EXCHANGE BUREAUX. A REAL BUNCH OF THIEVES!!!!!!!!!miladdo0 -
Stupidspender has kind-of mentioned this but I thought it is worth repeating...
There are two types of tax/duty applied to goods... 'Duty' and 'VAT'.
Tobacco & Alcohol have both, Duty is added to the 'cost' price and then VAT is applied on the combined amount. The Duty is a fixed amount for the type of product, eg a 70cl bottle of 40% spirits has £5.48 so if the base cost is £4.52 then VAT (@17.5%) is added to the combined amount of £10 to give a total cost of £11.75.
Other goods such as electrical items, cosmetics & clothes only have VAT applied.
If you are travelling within the EU then you cannot buy goods Duty free but you can get them Tax free (ie without the VAT). Places such as the Canary Islands and the Channel Islands have special status and Duty free is allowed, and there are some special rules for the new EU members (such as the Czech Republic) that allow you bring in Duty free.
On a different note, in my experience the savings on Duty Free items were worth having but VAT/Tax only items (within the EU) gave little or no savings.Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!0 -
Just flew back today into Heathrow T1 and after we cleared customs they had 1 kilo boxes of finest Belgian praline patissieres Duc d'O for 7.50 - half price! Better than Toblerone!!!0
