  • Are the prices quoted by World Duty Free available to all passengers or only to passengers travelling to/from outside the E.U.?

I travel via Barcelona airport a couple of times a year (if I'm lucky, lol). They invariably have Jamison's Irish whiskey on special offer. The cheapest I've had was 27 euros (about £19+) for two litres....... The dearest 33 euros for the same. Currently Tesco's cost equates to £22+ for one litre! Definately a 'good buy' and there's nothing like a drop of the Irish on a cold winters night!!

you get 2 different prices at most airports, 1 price for people travelling out of the EU and another price for people travelling within the EU.

i always found it cheaper to buy things from the country i am going to for aftershaves, drink, ciggies.

it is annoying when you see 1000 B&H buy 1 get 1 free for £50 and when you go to pay for it, you are shown a small label with a different price on it for EU passengers.
what is the plural of moose?

  • Perfume is duty free anywhere in the UK, its a product that has no duty attached to it.The only products in the airport that are duty free is Alcohol or tobacco, as these are the only item that have duty on them anyway if purchased away from the duty free shop.
Its just a way to make you think that you are getting what they know everyone wants , something for nothing.
BTW toblerone or kinder eggs or toys also have no duty on them nor do clothes cd's/dvd's electrical goods or 99% of the things that "duty free " shops sell at airports!
The maximum that you could save if you are leaving the EEC is the 17.5 % vat, but to save that the “duty free” shop would have to be the cheapest place to buy the goods.
In my experience these same goods can be purchased cheaper at home or even cheaper at the country that you are visiting!
BTW i use to work for Rothmans and the 200 fags that the airport cartel baa charge you £18 cost about £5 without the duty and Vat, the mcc should investigate the price fixing at airport dutyfree shops on fags.

And, as you have to show your boarding card, you can't pull a fast one!
  • The duty free perk has long gone when it comes to crossing the Channel to France. But, that has turned out to be a good thing, as the previous mean limits have also disappeared, to be replaced by the more generous Customs' Guidelines.
There are still mammoth savings to be made by popping across the Channel to stock up on beer and wine which is sold as Duty Paid - at French rates. I find that the best savings are to be had with mid to higher range wines.

If you're looking to buy gold (be it jewellery, coins etc) then you're better off buying in the Dubai government airport shops than spending hours haggling in the the gold souks. Everything is fixed price, so no haggling but you will not be ripped off. Only downside is there's far more variety in the souk market.
