OS Daily Thread - Monday 15th February 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 15th February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS lovelies,
Angeltreats and Billie - really glad to have you with us.
Angeltreats - That was a lovely gesture by your husband! Hope you will keep posting with us now you have found us.
Coco1980 - Gammon in cola is delicious!! Even if you don't put the glaze on it still infuses the gammon with a nice flavour. The recipe is HERE
Lowesy and Nic1 - still thinking of you both
Esmf - Have a lovely time in Ireland.
Hart - that was a lovely thing for your son to do.
Noahs - your cupcakes sound gorgeous. My OH came home with chocolates and the £5 roses he bought from Tescos have all opened to full bloom and are looking so gorgeous now. I have to admit I bought him a peace lily last year cos of the shape of it's flowers!
Halight - lovely to see you posting hon, we miss you when you don't.
Czarina - my condolences to your friend.
Anguk - I am so pleased for you and Martyn that he is home. What a relief.
Jackie0 - as usual your stories about your dear husband brought a lump to my throat.
jc - Good luck to your son for tomorrow.

We have a new home help lady coming today as my normal one is on holiday. She is a lovely polish girl apparently so looking forward to meeting her. Apart from menu planning, not much OS-iness going on.
Ok, well WM is on and the BM has almost finished its cycle and Tris is online so I shall post this and go and see how he is.
I hope everyone has a good start to the week, and that anyone feeling poorly
feels better soon. With love, light and squishy
for all.

Morning MSD & all who cross/follow
Love to see your cheery post's Diva.
First day of half term & I wake up at 4am! Not that I was going to have a lie in as I still need to get up to get hubby to the station. Still if I start to flag later I can have a snooze.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning Diva, Hester & all who follow.
Up at the usual time here as DS2 has a Study Preperation Workshop at school - seems like a good idea with his gcse's coming up this year. He's asked for pancakes for breakfast & I have just made the batter. Hopefully everyone else will have a lie in as they were late in bed last night with one thing and another.
Halight Lovely to see you posting yesterdayI keep meaning to ask you if you have noticed a difference in the warmth in the house since you had the insulation etc fitted in the summer? I was thinking about you when it was snowing & wondering.
Hester Make sure that you have a little kip later if you flag. Glad DH likes his new job
Diva We love gammon here but have never tried the recipe in cola - I shall have to give it a go as it sounds gorgeous. Can I come for lunch too?
Well OSiness today will be: Breakfast is pancakes which I shall make soon and the other children can heat them up when they get up, Lunch is spicy lentil soup, ham sandwiches and carrot, sultana & peanut salad followed by a Twink hob nob and tea is spaghetti bolognaise. I am cooking 2 packs of mince today as I'm doing chilli tomorrow and it'll save me some work if I just add chillis and beans to half of the mixture tomorrow. I'll be hiding the sauce once I've served the bolognaise tonight though or it'll vanish in second helpings
I also need to do the Flylady list and some ironing today. DH is going to bath the dogs as they went swimming in a local canal yesterday!
Bigto everyone and have a good day xx

Morning peeps
its a lot warmer this morning so no scraping todayDH was up early today too, my alarm went off at 4am and he sprung out of bed as he is off fishing for the day. Usually need a crowbar and a crane to get his back off the mattress
I`ve started to work my way through the winter coats which are all hung up in the hallway, we seem to have accumulated quite a few which are getting a bit in the way now, there are coats for work, coats for dog walking, coats for this and that so i`m on a mission to get some of them washed and put away upstairs. I may even manage to sneak one of DH`s dog walking coats into the bin as its nothing more than a bunch of rags, he loves it and always wears it despite having two more that he can wear.
Tea tonight is curry, rice and garlic naannice and easy and hardly any pots as i cook it all in the remoska, need to hunt out the recipe as i`ve not made it since before christmas. Had a nice pm from a lovely member who has made the recipe and loves it and that made me want to make it soon so tonight it will be. I posted it ages ago so maybe i`ll print off a new copy instead of hunting for it later.
Not much else to report really, i shall ring DH later and no doubt hear about the houndies trying to sneak off fishing with him :rotfl:they are staying at home today as its too cold for oldie to stay out all day and the younger one can`t go without him as it wouldn`t be fair. When the weather is warmer they can both go.
Anguk - Lovely to hear about Martyns progress, keep us all posted.
Welcome to all the new posters, its lovely here, i always think of it as a nice cosy corner of MSE
Catch up later guys, have a good day.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning All
Had half hours lie in as its half term but a didn't have a good nights sleep so feeling very tired at the moment - hope I wake up soon.
Today will be having an office day -have got loads to get though. DS will probably play out with friends, they have built a den over the fields. I am going to pick up DD's friend who is coming over here for the day so they can make a poster for their X Factor concert next weekend. So I hope to get my head down for a few hours uninterupted.
OH & Stepdad got loads done in the garage yesterday, don't think we will be having the builders back. They have done a good job of the brickwork but have taken the akro's which belong to another company & also OH is missing bits from his drill that they borrowed. He is not impressed at all.
Have got Prezzo's tonight to look forward to, have a 50% off all food voucher which is valid only for today, so no cooking:j:j.Must do a menu plan for the rest of the week sometime today.
Best get on, have a good day & (((hugs))) to anyone who needs one.x0 -
Morning all
Love and hugs to those who are sad or poorly.
Dry but cold here this morning. First day of a week's holiday and I wake up at 5.45am but I did go to bed at 9.45pm which is very early for me and I slept all night without stirring so obviously needed it!
Have a list of jobs to do so will want to crack on with them, as it will make life much easier once I have done these, mostly sorting the boys cupboards and wardrobes of clothes that do/don't fit - will be going to charity shops/ebay/clothes bank etc. Have washed the quilt covers etc from the caravan will need to get them all put back on and then take them back to the caravan ready for the weekend, as we are going away for a belated Burns Supper.
Did lots of cooking/baking on Friday and Saturday morning, so now have 1 dozen choc cup cakes, 1 dozen Twinks, Bakewell tart, lemon curd tarts and a fruit tealoaf, should keep everyone quiet for a bit!! Have menu planned but need to organise a meal for Friday night - maybe chicken kievs for OH and boys and fish pie for me. Made the boys and OH paninis for Sat lunch which they all enjoyed, something else to add to the lunch list.
Took boys to Rugby training yesterday morning then DS2 had a birthday party to go to in the next town so whilst he was at the party we went to eat and then after collecting him we went to see OH's grandparents who I haven't seen since before Xmas so was nice for them and us - they were really pleased to see us - and they both continue to do well for their age they are both in their eighties.
Put all the dirty rugby kit in the wash last night so will get that on the airer today, dinner tonight will be smoked sausage pasta with creme fraiche sauce, dessert will be anything from the HM selection I've made, yogurts or fruit. Lunch is likely to be sandwiches, fruit, yogurt and salad for me. Both boys are now up so will make them a cup of tea and some breakfast to eat whilst I'm in the shower.
Need to crack on otherwise I'll be on here all day.
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning.
Older mindee doesn't come in holiday time so I can sit in my PJ's and surf until a bit later. Don't normally have chance
Going to my other mindees house to play this morning around 10am and staying for lunch. Hope the kids have a good time.
Not sure what the plan is for the afternoon. Want to have a go at making Millionaire Shortbread at somepoint this week.
Still seem to have a mountain of washing - blummin' sheets are a pain to dry when it's cold. Haven't tackled the ironing yet - so a job perhaps for tonight.
Valentines day was OK. Not terribly romantic though. Went to bed at 9.30 (no not for the reasons you might think - we were both shattered) and ended up being woken at midnight by DD. Having to leave her to cry I find very stressful and she went on and on and on and on for at least an hour and a half. At some points she was really screaming in temper
At least the dinner I made was delish
Heavenleigh - Hmmm fairy outfit for me.....shame it wasn't but I think I'd quite like one :rotfl: Tried it on DD who spent the whole time trying to pull it off.
Sunnyday - I have the same problem too with winter coats. Our porch is really small so hanging up they do take up a lot of room eek! Need to have a cull as a couple of them the kids have outgrown.
Right haven't had a coffee yet so off to make one.
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Good Morning everyone, thick frost here in North Kent and very very cold. Now my computer study has been rearranged it means I can look out of the window across the medway River.beatiful to see this morning as the sun came up but not very good for concentrating. Just watched a blackbird have a very noisy arguement with another bird over some bread that I had put out this morning on the flat roof of my bathroom. I think Mr Blackbird has a nest in the trees at the bottom of my garden,he is very insistant that he has the bread thats for sure.brwn won over brain and he has just flown down there triumphant with his prize.
I am going to make a lemon drizzle cake this morning and some small cakes for my DGS to snaffle tonight when he pops in with my paper on his way home.I have some sausage meat in the freezer and some puff pastry so I may make some sausage rolls as well.he has hollow legs and is as thin as a rake,Oh to be 19 again when you could eat anything and just burn it off.
I have a lttile ironing to catch up with as well so that may get sorted as well.I can't go out anywhere today as I have to wait in for the Argus delivery of my new desk and bookshelves which are due it two seperate deliveries one between 10-12 and the other between 12-6. I am hoping the delivery man will help me put them into the conservatory, I must smile nicely and he may be an angel. Hope everyone has a good Monday and keeps wrapt up warmly.
Take care all

Morning all,
Cold and frosty here again. Well my dd will be on her way to Spain right now, I dropped her off at my sisters last night the taxi was due to come at 4.30 this morning , so they would have been up at 3.30. I miss her already and cannot wait till Friday, but the house is staying very tidy, will try and crack on with her bedroom while she is away.
First of three loads is in the wm, will try to get it on the line, my sis gave me two pairs of new curtains yesterday, so I might see if they will go up on the two windows up the stairs, my mum put some up for us the day we moved, but they are very floral and not at all me
Sausage plait for tea, with mash and veg, will make a large one, then we can have it for lunches too.
Need to do an online shop, I think I might start doing it fortnightly, so save on the delivery fee, and so save me time.
Little dog is still in bed, she misses dd a lot, and is wandering round looking for her .
Ok wm finished, have good days all xx0 -
Hi Guys,
Hope everyone doing ok. I have already prepped the slow cooker and its now doing its stuff. We have a nice beef stew with dumplings for tea. My poor dog will be driven crazy by the smell of it cooking!
I have to go and get ready as need to leave for hospital appointment with DS1 (19). He ripped his cartilage playing rugby before xmas and it looks like he needs an op to repair. He is not very happy at the moment and I think the time has come for him to leave home. He doesnt want to be here and spends all his time with his mates. Anytime he is we end up fighting over money or washing and I feel like Im losing him anyway. I knew this time would come but its hard and I dont know to progress it bearing in mind he has no job. However if i dont do something I think it will end up as an emergency as he leaves home as the result of a row! I need some proper advice as i dont know where to go!
Usual mountains of washing. Ironing was done yesterday and kids dad tidied up the garden so it looks better. Well must go and get ready. Hugs xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all
Hester - I'm off work this week too and woke at 7! That's a whole half hour earlier than I normally do for work!
I put WM on then I read in bed for a bit this morning. WM has just finished so I need to hang clothes on airer. Need to prep BM too and will put that on whilst I'm out today. I'm just about to dye my hair, and then will clean bathroom afterwards. I also need to take the recycling to the tip, somehow I have accumalated a million cardboard boxes since Xmas :rotfl:.
Then I'm picking up my friend and we are heading into town to pick up last minute bits for the wedding we are going to on Weds. I need nail varnish and to get the Euros for the wedding present (they are honeymooning in Spain). I'm also having my eyebrows waxed and tinted. I've had them waxed before but never tinted! I'm going a few shades darker with the hair dye (I'm a reddy brown at moment, and going back to my natural colour which is dark dark brown (well I think it's similar, I can't ahem remember my natural colour anymore! :rotfl:). I feel my eyebrows are a tad too faint so hopefully the tint will make them look better.
This may well be my last OS post until Friday as I'm away for the wedding in Somerset early Tuesday to Thursday night (yes that involves packing yet another suitcase! my 5th this year!!), so have a fab week all.
