generally you will contact social worker or rehab unit but occupational health will take him home for a day and see what equipment if any he will require to go home and he wont normally get home until this is in place .if he was in any of the forces then ssafa will help out and there might be a forces nursing home in the area that might take him depending on his recovery hope this helps

Nixi - Sorry about all your difficulties...OH has just gone out with the reciept in his wallet, I was sure he said it showed as delivered...wouldn't surprise me with the post round here! He should be back soon so I'll send him to the post office to sort it out, and to pick up a new one. Sorry about this x

Elly - Thank you! He had a occupational health home visit yesterday and she was working out what he would need, mainly supper as physicallt he really is fine, he flew up the two flights of steps to his flat! He settled straight back in which was good, could easily find everything and so I think he ouwld be better at home. It is 'just' his communication, meals and money he is really struggling with, and some short term memory issues but with the right support he will be fine. He wasn't in the forces. His improvement in 5+ weeks is incredible and the OT commented that she saw more 'talking' in the few minutes he was at home and with my children than in anytime at the centre! (Problem is my children don't want to see him - thats what he gets for ignoring them for the last year!!) What do you do that you know all this?
Sorry for the dribble folks....but I am going to struggle to focus on the challenge until I have sorted this!Life is a work in progress0 -

Hi there, it is occupational therapists that do home assessments for discharges (which is my job lol!). Occupational health deal with employee health related matters. Easy to get the 2 names mixed up & happens all the time.
Not had chance to catch up with what has happened nixinixi, but if I can be of any help please just PM me. All areas work slightly differently. If your family member is in a specific rehab unit then they usually have physio and occupational therapy (OT) input. The OT will assess what is called activities of daily living - which is basically just how someone copes with all the day to day things they need to do eg. getting dressed, managing the toilet, what will happen with drink & meal preparation, getting around the home in general, getting on and off things etc. OT's usually work quite closely with social workers who's job it is to organise any extra help that might be needed at home. OT's can also provide equipment to make life easier depending on need (stuff to make it easier getting off the loo, out off bed, to carry food from A to B etc). If bigger stuff is needed social services OT staff are usually involved and this can be a lengthier process (for things like stairlifts etc), but as Elly mentioned sometimes you can get stuff from SAFFA or other charitable organisations. Home visits do not always happen before discharge - it depends on need. They are very helpful as a "trial run" to see what will be needed on discharge. It is very very important to make sure all help / equipment etc is in place PRIOR TO DISCHARGE and dig your heels in if they try to discharge and you have any worries or the plan is not in place.
Gone off on a major tangent sorry lol!!!!!0 -
ok back from the very long journey again today.....Had the interview and well have just been told that I did not get the job. This time the feedback was that he just did not feel that I *fit the IMAGE* of what he had in his mind although he had no doubt I could do the job and do it well. Back to the drawing board but in all honesty.......I think I am ready to throw the towel in on most fronts in my life. I have well and truly had enough.

Yikes! No need to apologise lol!!! Hope I did not sound like I was being narky. :A
Hope you grab some charity shop bargains. I haven't had much luck in our local charity shops as things seem quite pricey. Trying to get the kids bathed and in bed in the next hour and need a boot up the butt to get thinking about Ebay listings.
I fluctuate between all fired up on this challenge to loosing the will to live with it.:rotfl:0 -

Munchki - YOU ... WILL ... NOT GIVE UP!! Your fellow Dribblers will not permit you to do so! All this chasing about must be so frustrating, but you are clearly capable and experienced, you're getting interviews.
So what ideas can we come up with for our Munchki? I'll start off with this - how about combining a part-time or temp job (however rubbish) with working on your business again? If you think it's a crap idea, I don't mind, just trying to get brains working on your behalf.
Nixi, we had a similar experience when my mum was out of hospital and needed some temporary support. SS didn't want to know, even though she lives alone, two of us live abroad, and the third is the other side of London, with school-age children. Family are supposed to deal with everything, even though it's not always practical or indeed possible.0 -
i think a lot of them are weaning out the good stuff and ebaying it themselves ,
At least you only get ot and oh i get asked daily if i am just practising one 17 yr old recently actually meant it when the oaps just think they are the first to make the joke:rotfl:.
i do think i should just cheat and do an extra shift a week on the bank but determined to keep going with this who knows ive always liked buying and selling.:)So finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x0 -

Amber, I have tried even getting a cleaning job, mcdonalds, temp work, I have tried to get whatever I can get my hands on. There is obviously something seriously wrong with me. I dont see the point of continueing to fight, at least at the moment. I have spent nearly every penny I have trying to find work, have a car payment due at the end of the month which is the only thing I have left of everything that I once owned and needs to be paid in 2 weeks time. Without it the job search really will come to a halt anyway. I am tired, sat here in tears, exhausted and incredibly frustrated. Supposed to have two more interviews next week, but quite frankly I am starting to wonder why bother.
I am really really sorry everyone and if I have made anyone here angry or upset please accept my apology, but like so many, I too need to vent and I try very hard to stay positive etc but there really is only so much a human being can take and I have taken all I can.
Take care all and thank you for the wonderful thoughts and advice over the past few weeks.
