Are you saying that this set is a direct competitor for fujitsus own plasmas?

No, what I'm saying is it's not crazy for the joint venture to go into the same marketplace as one of the parents. I'm much more up on how FSC works as a company than on how plasmas work, I'm just trying to correct any wrong impressions people seem to have about the company.

On the subject of the telly, I would really like to see an objective comparison from someone who's got the product knowledge and has seen the screen in operation - easiest way to close off that arguement about where it sits in comparison to other products.

And no, before you jump in Hank, you don't seem objective in this case.

But it is crazy to sell the same product to the same marketplace under the same brand (virtually) at two vastly different price points is it not?

But you've not been there when I've spent the far too long reading geeky websites (ad infinitum) visiting sooo many showrooms , reading spec sheets galore (BTW: I'm ex Electronics), reading reviews ....& on it goes. In short I'm not someone who stumbled into Woolies, bought a cheap tele & then wants to evangelise for some alterior motive.

I drew up my spec...assessed pros/cons - saw what it was going to cost (ouch), then this one breezed in. It was a no brainer....my only mistake was sharing it with some tw@ts (:D ) on here.

Dear me what sort of people are you guys to resort to that sort of language over a difference of opinion on an internet forum?

    OK Fujitsu-Siemens are the best plasma TV's ever!!!!!!!!!1111111111111oneoneoneoneone  :j :T

    Happy now?

No, it isn't. Fujitsu-Siemens has a very good arguement for entering into the plasma screen market to make a profit for both parents. Let's not forget this is on the FSC website with a price of £1,361 with one years warranty (which should be a better idea of the level they're aiming at), and that the £800 odd price seems to have been an employee offer to shift stock quickly for some reason (WEEE or whatever). It might be that the full price FSC tellys are aimed at slightly lower hanging fruit than the Fujitsu General ones, but there is absolutely no insanity in FSC entering the marketplace.

So why did volkswagon not rebadge the skoda octavia to the VW Octavia then and sell it along side their own passatt? Same car (virtually), different price point, same marketplace, different brand. It relies on the customer not realising that they are the same car, even if they did realise they were the same car the brand snobbery would kick in and they would still buy the VW. If they were both branded VW then there would be no brand snobbery and they would buy the cheapest, hence reducing the mark up for VW.

I understand both parents are involved but for this product siemens needs fujitsu more than vice versa, therefore fujitsu has the power to dictate to siemens.

For Fujitsu (Volswagon) to allow that to happen would be very silly.

The TVs are not, as far as I am aware, targetted at leading edge or prestige purchases. If they were, they would be more expensive.

Compared to non-brand they are ahead on quality / price.
Compared to Teir one brands they offer better performance / price.
No-one is going to lose money buying one.

So, can I offer a solution to everyone please: These are upper mid range sets, from a TOP BRAND company (albeit not yet in TVs), with an entry level price.

Is that acceptable to everyone? Can we move on?

First, I have been saving this as this thread is so good, a little secret that may put the cat amongst the pidgeons. These were designed by Bang & Olufsen. Just look at them! They are made of metal, that frame is outstanding. How does that affect things?

God knows. I don't know anybody who works at Volkswagen. I do know people who work at FSC, and the amount of micro-managing involvement from the parent companies that there would have to be for your analogy to hold doesn't take place there. I can think of many reasons why you could make an arguement for it making sense even for Fujitsu, a better route to exploit the opening via computer sales on the business side, a different sales route into retail, etc, etc.

Matt, I have to agree that you seem to talk some sense, and are putting your viewpoint across eloquently.

Hank, dont swear. And its ulterior not alterior for future reference. Also, if the customer service really was THAT bad when you received your set, why on earth did you not warn people of the potential pitfall when you posted?

You certainly like to give the rose tinted view :( Dont you feel bad for not warning others of the possible problems?
    Be nice

Thats all we were ever trying to get people to admit to. But for some reason they just wont.
