Hey everyone,
A couple of hours ago I started having problems with my windows XP. It kept on coming up with XP antivirus and about how they want me to pay for it so that I won't have no problems on my computer. This is the first time I have ever heard of this and I don't know what to do. It won't let me do anything on the computer like go on the internet or itunes etc.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

HI, I had this last week. Mine appeared after reading a forum page on the Sun newspaper site. It's just to get you to believe you can only get rid of it by parting with your money. Nothing to do with XP but is designed to look very real and frighten the life out of you. It did me. I'm not very techie but went into "tools", "manage add-ons" and I disabled any add-ons that looked suspect. I also ran full scans just to make sure. I disabled a Java add-on and a Radialpoint add-on that had appeared. It did the trick. I hope this helps and a more "techie person will come and help you a bit more.0

run this - oh and don't pay for anything!
Malware Bytes
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
- On the Scanner tab:
- Make sure the "Perform full Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Try safe mode with networking to access the net. - http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true
If all that fails download the required programmes from another computer and transfer then to the infected one.0 -
If you are stuck at the moment and can't get onto the internet or don't have access to another computer just now you could try running mrt (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool).
It is basic but might shift something to give you access to the internet, to run.........
Click start, click run and then type mrt into the run box and then click OK0 -
