At the computer end, what are you plugging the HDMi cable into, exactly which [ I assume ] brand & version, video card ?
Your O/S is much older than when HDMi went mainstream, yet you say the video out via HDMi works just the audio does not ?
My earlier 12:24 AM post was reference Vista or Win7, so what I said does not refer to WinXP !
For WinXP with your HDMi out via a video card, this is what you should see, and do : http://digiex.net/computing-section/guides-tutorials/windows/462-enable-audio-over-dvi-hdmi-windows-xp-windows-vista.htmlDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Hi Richie,
Excuse my ignorance, but I'm not entirely sure how to see what brand and type of video card the PC has.
I can confirm that the video out works and the audio does not, yes.
I've looked at the link and followed the instructions. This is where the problem lies. I do not have the option to select ATI HD Audio, as it say. The only option it gives me is Realtek HD audio output. No choice, nothing to change it to.
I've tried downloading ATI HD audio, but when I try to install it, it comes up with a message saying my service pack version of this edition is newer than the product I am applying and that there is no need to install this update.
Not sure where this leaves me, other than looking at a lovely big, but quiet telly!
Thanks for trying to help me mate, any more ideas? :T

Christ, the wife will divorce me the amount of time I am spending trying to sort this out!
I have managed to establish that the driver the PC has is NVIDIA Geforce 9400 GT. (19621).
Sort of hit a brick wall now though, and got to go to bed.
Really hoping someone can give me some good news.

- and the [ current ] driver version

The Bad News
Your Geforce 9400 GT can ' carry / piggy back ' audio but does not have an audio controller chip.
- It does have an S/PDIF (in) which needs to be fed from an S/PDIF out
- Does your MOBO have [ onboard sound ] or [ if you have one ] sound card have an S/PDIF output ?
- It looks like you are going to have to make some kind of cable ' bodge ' and then find the right digital S/PDIF box's to tick when windows picks it up
- if you have no [ S/PDIF ] sound out header on MOBO or sound card you are probably goosed my friend
The Good News
If you can wire an S/PDIF cable from MOBO or sound card into your Video Card your HDMi will work fine in digital to your teleDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Wow, that looks mighty confusing for a layman such as me.

I've had a thought.
If I got external speakers and just ran them out of the PC, wouldn't that do the job? I could get surround sound speakers perhaps, then when we are watching tv through the virgin box, or on the WII, the sound will come out of the tv speakers. When we are watching the tv from the pc, the surround speakers would work? Hmm, that might be tricky though?
Clutching at straws a bit really to get this fixed. Or, what about the cable that jasx suggested? IF this worked, would there be a distinct lack of quality in the audio compared to if it came through the HDMI?
Thanks again.

Here are the answers to the two questions:
NV4-disp6.14.11.9621 (Forceware 196.21) XP
Foxconn g31MX series.
Hope that makes sense!

Soundbars ~ a single unit that tried to emulate a surround sound effect
Generally work quite well though obviously not as good as a proper surround sound system
The real plus to them is they tend to sound WAY better (Sound quality) than the cheapie surround units
heres some to peruse ~
