Thanks for trying mate, but I can't follow that instruction.
Where do I go to disable the onboard PC speakers, for starters?
1. Go to control panel
2. Go to the sound icon / playback tab / digital audio [ HDMi ]
3. Change your sound option to HDMI
4. Click OK.
How do I check the the sound output from the PC is set for digital?
1. Go to control panel
2. Go to the sound icon / playback tab / digital audio [ HDMi ]
3. Change your sound option to HDMI
4. Click OK.
Sorry to be a thicko on this, it's got me a bit beat!
Thanks again.
Duncan
Which windows operating system are you using ?
Does your PC have an HDMi out port ?
Do you have a HDMi cable ?
Can you see / find the sound icon / playback tab / digital audio [ HDMi ] in your control panel ?
Your welcome Duncan - we all get stuck from time to time !, I'm crashing out now if no one else jumps in to help I'll get back to you SaturdayDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Its WINDOWS XP. Home Edition 2002, service pack 3. (hope that's what you meant)
I assume it has an HDMI out port, as the HDMI cable is working to give a picture on the tv, just not sound.
In control panel there is an icon for "SOUNDS, SPEECH AND AUDIO DEVICES". There is no mention of HDMI in there.
Also, when following the instruction to disable onboard PC speakers, I uninstalled what I think was the driver (?) - REALTECH So, presumably I've done that wrong?!
Thanks again for the assistance.

An alternative if your PC has a stereo headphone jack out or optical audio out would be getting a second cable....

...no doubt AlienRik will have opinions on cable quality but I've been happy with the sound over short distances from "cheap but not too cheap" cables like this

sounds to me like you will need to reinstall your realtech sound driver get your motherboard systems disc it will be on there.0

Hmm, sounds like I've made things worse then!:o
I can find a disc of WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION which came with the PC, but nothing else.
Can I download the driver I need, perhaps?
Then, I just need to establish why I can't see an option for HDMI anywhere when I look in control panel.....
Thanks again for any help people can offer.

Hello there,
Ok, I did that, and it seems to have installed Nvidia drivers, but not sure that they have anything to do with audio.
When I go to control panel and click on sounds speech and audio devices, I can then click on the icon "sound and audio devices". It says "no audio" device on the next page. So, something's obviously still awry ....
Does this sound fixable?
Thanks again,

Pretty sure it is, we just need to determine what the device is then find the driver for it

Hi again,
Well, I've just spent a while googling and tinkering and I've managed to re-install realtech HD Audio Manager. So, I'm back in the situation I was in before, but at least I have the capability of an audio device installed, which must be a good thing. Thanks for your help, and I'd appreciate any more ideas when you've not been on nights. I'll, of course, keep trying to suss it out myself.
Thanks.

Ok, update is that I've spent an hour looking on google and tried downloading HDMI realtech driver update, but when I went to run it, it said it was not compatible. So, not any further forward. Would appreciate any advice.....
Thanks,
Duncan0
