Hello all,
I posted a thread similar to this a year or so ago, but in the end didn't proceed, and I now can't find a record of the thread on here! Things have changed and we are going to now get an LCD tv (between about 42 and 46" we're thinking) for our conservatory. We have gone for LCD due to the light that the conservatory has to deal with, and a plasma not being so good at coping with that, from what I read.
Budget? I want a good tv, but not fussed about the best tv possible etc, just one that does the job, has enough inputs to deal with WII, PS3 and can take PC input.
The distance between where we will be sitting and the wall I want it mounting on is 10 / 11 foot.
So, any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Oh yeh, budget? Well, would expect to pay more than £500, but not more than £800, if that sounds reasonable?
Thanks in advance,
Duncan

Hello,
Sorry to post again. I have seen these two:
1/ Toshiba 46XV635Db
2/ SAMSUNG LE46B550
Anyone got either of these, or just know about them?
Thanks,

The Samsung is very good
BUT ~ Samsungs tend to be quite slow for gaming purposes (usually, im unsure of that particular model). LAG should be a lot better using GAME mode however
Toshibas tend not to be great LCDs quality wise:idea:0 -
Samsung Series 6 which comes with HDMI and DLNA support for easy PC, PS3 access0

Thanks for all the advice, to everyone. I bought the samsung in the end. It's sitting in my conservatory as I type! It looks the part, I must say.
I have a problem (as usual!
): I can't get the HDMI cable that I bought to go from my PC to the new tv to actually work. I can only get the computer to run on the new tv by using the old fashioned leads, if that makes sense. So, no sound, and most importantly not making the most of the 1080 presumably. I am not getting VIRGIN on it for two weeks, so it's only through the PC that we will really get use of the new tv until then.
I've spent about an hour fiddling around, with no success, so I'm hoping and praying that someone on here can point me in the right direction.
I have checked that the tv does make a sound, by linking a DVD player to it, which worked.
I hope this post makes sense? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried simply unplugging the normal lead and plugging in the hdmi lead then rebooting?:idea:0

I have now! What a complete tool I am! I was actually thinking that a few times while messing around trying to fix it, but thought it was too simple!
Right, now the picture works but there is no sound. I will bend my mind to sorting this out, but check back on here sporadically during the night to see if you're kind enough to help again....
Thanks so much Alienrik. I remember you helped about a year ago when I was first thinking of purchasing....

No worries
Sound ~ you need to select the hdmi as the sound output:idea:0 -
I've been trying to do that for about 15 minutes, with no luck. I can't work out what to go into. I've been on control panel and sounds, but can't see any mention of HDMI to click on.... what do you think?
Thanks again.

If the sound output from your PC is set to digital I see no reason why it's not going via HDMi
- disable the onboard PC speakers
1. Go to control panel
2. Go to the sound icon / playback tab / digital audio [ HDMi ]
3. Change your sound option to HDMI
4. Click OK.
Sound will now go to TV, but you will not get sound on your PC unless you switch it back !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks for trying mate, but I can't follow that instruction.
Where do I go to disable the onboard PC speakers, for starters?
How do I check the the sound output from the PC is set for digital?
Sorry to be a thicko on this, it's got me a bit beat!
Thanks again.
