inducing labour

baby due 22.02 - any ideas on how to get it to hurry up! am at the cross and irritable stage of pregnancy. practice contractions coming thick and fast, just not developing into anything!

I know I have 10 days to go, but really want to have this baby now! It is my second child, and I know they go quicker than 1st ones and less likely to be overdue. Everything is twitchy!

  • Hi i had my second child in September 09. I was overdue and induced with my both of my children. The second induction was a lot easier than the first though.
    Good luck hope it works

    sex
    pineapple
    hot curry
    walking
stretch and sweep when midwife allows

Can't think of any more at the mo but there are loads. Sex is supposed to be the best.
    Good luck

  • Sorry I hate to say it but theres nothing you can do really bubs will come when they are ready- the theory of second babies coming earlier doesnt ring true either as I went over by 10 days with my third baby-believe me I know how you are feeling I tried everything to budge her, all the usual old wife stuff pineapple, curry, long walks, raspberry leaf tea, everything I was desperate to get her evicted! The only thing that done it was a sweep by a burly midwife! Had that at 2 in the afternoon labour started at 9.15 and I was holding her by 9.45....I know everyone says this but I really wish I had relaxed during those last few weeks....it sucks I know hopefully it wont be too long for you.

I understand how you feel. I tried lots of the "old wives' tales" to bring on my labours. I suspect they are all just exercises in keeping you distracted until the baby arrives! lol Anyway, by sheer coincidence, with my youngest, I actually booked an induction. :o My waters broke the night before - maybe baby was aware of my eviction notice. :) My eldest was early too but I hadn't actually booked her in. :p
  • its only difficult if the woman isnt on top lol....i was in labour with ds2 and the midwife sent me home as it was going so slow...told me to have some of the other....we did at about 9 or 10 oclok in the evening back in the hospital by 12 and im damned sure it was the sex that did it lol.

get a gym ball and sit on it legs far apart...it encourages the pelvis to open and baby to shift down some more...hopefully hitting your cervix :)
i did lots and lots of walking with mine and he was 8 days early !
gd luck with it all x

my third child was induced as I was two weeks over due date........but when he was born.....the midwife looked appalled and said this baby is about a month away from due date! even though all the ultrasounds etc said nov he was covered in 'vernix' i think its called - anyway - all the midwives on the ward made a point of popping in to see him and to rub their hands on him!! apparently its the worlds best hand cream! he should have been a christmas baby!
I had a friend at the time who went into labour a month early and within an hour had an obviously full term baby (over 8 pounds while mine was only 6 pounds)
so dont be too quick to induce labour hun, your dates may be out and baby arrives before or after due date!

Many women try all the old wives tales but they are just that!
If labour starts following doing one of the wives tales it is just coincidence :)

Saying that sperm does contain the same ingredient they use in induction pesseries :)

Babies come when they are ready. Goodluck x

thanks for all the advice - looks like a lovely curry for tea tomorrow! You'd think that running around after an extremely active 2 years old would do something! Will take her to the park and play football tomorrow, which is he current favourite thing to do, so hopefully.

and see if I can persuade the MW to do sweep at 40 weeks, which is my next appointment. someone else recommended acupuncture?
