  • The Tomatoes ripened at last, got quite a good crop as I grew 3 different varieties this year for a change, grew Roma for the first time and they are gorgeous so will definitely be growing those again. Cherry tomatoes have almost finished, still got some Moneymaker in the Greenhouse but will lift the last of the Toms from the Allotment this week as it's getting cooler at night - we are in South London.

I was still picking Green Beans on Friday, got 2 Augergines, some Bramley apples, a marrow and the last of the cucumbers. Checked Squashes when I was up there on Friday and they will be ready any day now - packet says September/October so I will just cut them as I need them for Soup/casseroles/roasting.

Can't wait for Leeks to be ready - I paid £1.19 for a pack of 3 in supermarket the other day.

Must also pick the last of the Spring onions - will use some for soup to stock the Freezer up and the rest for adding to Mash this week.

Still got Cabbages, PSB, brussel sprouts, swede, turnips, carrots etc to look forward to in the winter months up the Allotment.

Hope you are all still enjoying the Fruits of your Labour.;)

I've had to rip up & burn 11 of my 16 tomato plants.:( I've been well & truly struck by the blight (sp):(

Only just seen this. Hope you managed to get some fruit before you lost them. :(
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Mr BE how did you get on with the swedes?

I don't think they're going to do much. Still just swedelings really. :p

I'm still picking tomatoes (although not many left now). Today I picked this pair, which I had been eagerly anticipating. I think they are the best two kumatoes I've grown this year. Outside, and from a side shoot I planted. I'm going to use one to save for seed:

And as that picture gives little idea of scale, the biggest is 5oz, and the other not far behind:

I've still got a few carrots left, a bit of beetroot but I'm really looking forward to the parsnips, which I haven't touched yet. I had a little look today, and I think I'm going to get some really nice ones. :D

Managed to get the lawn cut today, so hopefully it won't need doing again this year. I still need to dig another bed. What else should I be doing?

Picked the last of my Beetroot last Friday, cut the grass Saturday and picked the last of my tomatoes yesterday. Still have Carrots in large pots which I'm hoping to save for Xmas dinner, last year they were frozen in the pot but great fun trying to get them out!! Still got veg up at the Allotment but apart from that I'm going to wait for Spring now.:o

You've done very well, Mr BE :T:T:T

Next year, we will grow what has worked best for us, this year.

Purple sprouting broccoli, carrots, swiss chard, green beans, 5 varieties of chilli, peppers, parsley, coriander, mint, living salad, tomatoes, gem squash and thyme.

We get apples and plums from my MIL.

That is enough to keep me and the DH going for the year.

Picked 81 Tomatoes yesterday, about 30 are almost ripe enough and the rest will ripen under the stairs.

    Judgement day has arrived.

I am pleased to say I won the tallest kale competion, with the one nearest the fence:

    159cm tall, to my mate's 151cm.

    Woo hoo! :D
