Norwich & Peterborough Gold Account?

Hi everyone, i've been a lurker and now i'm taking the plunge and want to post :eek::p.

I've had many financial problems over the last 2 years, I've started to slowly get back on track, and I must say since i've been lurking for a few months i've picked up such useful advice.

I had NO bank account a few years back after i got into some BIG trouble with HSBC, i opened a few basic accounts and recently I applied for an N&P gold account aqnd to my shock was accepted with a £500 overdraft facility, which I was NOT expecting.

I have recently opened a Vanquish Card and a capital one card, i'm finally starting to take control of MONEY.

My question is, does anyone have an account with N&P?

I'm just a bit apprenhensive that they offered me an account given my past problems and not (m)any people have even come across the Building Society, can anyone offer me their personal experience of them?

Because I am getting a cheque book, and multi function card and OD facility, i really want to use this as my main account and finally shut my basic accounts, but i'm a little unsure.

sorry for giving you my life history, i'm just confused LOL.

thanks in advanced
She LEFT me, she LIED, and she made me foot the BILL ! :mad:

    No offence intended, but i would be very careful with your financial affairs regarding the two credit cards and overdraft you have access to if you had financial trouble in the past.

    Best of fortune.

    That is why I am a little apprehensive, I know I have been silly in the past, I have tried to rectify that and am finally controlling myself, thanks to support from CAB and even reading this forum helped, you guys have no idea!

    I know I have a decent wage coming through and have avoided incurring ANY bank charge on my basic accounts, and my default is a few years old, but I was shocked I got a full account, that is why I am a bit confused.

    My question is, does anyone have an account with N&P?

    I've had the gold account with them for three years now. I've found them helpful, efficient, and quite flexible. I asked them to increase the o/d to £750 for a short period, and they did it without question, and permanently.

    The phone service is very good; the people answering the phones seem well empowered to do their jobs without having to refer all that often, and when they do need to refer they keep their promises and return calls quickly.

    There are only four downsides to them as far as I'm concerned:

    * They have not yet implemented faster payments, either in or out.
    * Branch network is limited (I don't live anywhere in their branch coverage) but on balance, the internet/phone service makes up for this.
    * Internet banking seems a little clunky/dated.
    * They're not 24/7 on the phones.

    Hope that helps.

    OMG cheers for that, wasn't expecting so much detail :D

    I was also worried i'd be the only one in the uk with a N&P account :rotfl:

    BTW is the gold account a basic account?

    in the other thread the poster gave me a link to, the O/P states 'it's only a basic account', i was getting quietly happy thinking i'm nearer to full conventional accounts again, diudn't know cheque book accounts, visa multi function and an OD was basic account :cry: that burst my bubble hehe

    Nope; basic accounts don't have overdrafts, so if you have been given an overdraft, this is a full service account. I have the cheque book, and multifunction card (£100 cheque card & offline visa debit).

    I think we have the same account then, as in my letter it said £500 OD has been approved, cheque book and multi card are on their way, woo hoo that has made me happy plus if i do the transfer account over i get 6months OD interest free, although saying that i don't plan to use the OD so i might ask for it to be removed.

    you're brilliant :T:p:j

    Probably a good idea if you're not confident that you won't use it. They'll be really helpful on the phone, so just give them a bell and try them out :)
