Thanks George, it was very helpful. I did have the Optician check the fit, but he didn't write down the size etc, so i am currently with the 30 day trial pair, and I shall return to them for a months supply and then take it from there.... I know that it might not be worth it, but my job is far easier not to wear glasses, and so therefore I think it is worth wearing them...
Thanks** Getting back in the swing of saving again.... **

amateur_saver - I always ask for and take the 'cartons' which any lens come in, including trial pairs, so I have a certain record of what's in my eyes. Otherwise, the optician will only throw them in the bin. These cartons clearly state the three dimensions of the contact lens prescription: power, base curve and diameter. Increasingly, the optician only plays around with power in real life, these days. The diameter is just what the lens comes as. The base curve is going the same way too. Any real professional fitting has almost gone out of the window, since many lens only come in one base curve size. I've had big problems with this one size (doesn't) fit all approach.

That's really good to know George... you are certainly very knowledgeable, and it's nice to get good advice. I will buy them from them for one month, then after that shop around, as this time he put them in my eyes and chucked away the cartons... so don't have a clue of the size, make and model etc etc ....
Will get there ! :T** Getting back in the swing of saving again.... **

I've just finished a month's free trial with Ciel XII Toric lenses from Optical Express. I have tried another brand before, but prefer the Ciel ones.
However, I can't seem to find the brand name 'Ciel' on any of the discount sites.
Does anyone know if the 'Ciel' contacts are known under any other name.
As I say - I know there are other manufacturers out there but I didn't get on with the first set of contacts I tried, which were exactly the same type and prescription, but made by a different manuafcturer, so I would prefer to stick to the ones I know work for me.

I have just purchased 6 months supply (1 year for me as i only wear one lens!) of johnson and Johnson acuvue daily disposables for £165 including delivery. i phoned them because I was a bit confused about the lens description i had from my optician, but there is an online form that can be faxed. Very helpful people and swift despatch by Royal Mail special delivery. Excellent service and cheaper than Postoptics - my wife uses them so dont take that as a knock!! www.secondsightonline.co.uk0

Finally paid out after my trial solutions came to end. £1.77 per 100ml on 360ml bottle from Superdrug but Tesco offers £1.70 on only 250ml. Both offering lens case as well. Asda does £1.77 per 100ml on 250ml for those on the hard stuff. 250ml could have been enough until I work out how to DIY. No recipes in 'Close Contacts: The Joys and Tears of Contact Lenses - a Users Guide'!
And the basic recipe is @#*!">"~# -- ... 0.9% NaCl in deionized water. Which is basically tear solution. So if you know anybody cry a lot, bottle it up! Or, it could be NaCl as 6000 ppm in water. Sea water is 35000ppm and swim water 2000ppm. Or, it could be water (if possible, add 1 teaspoon, or 5 milliliters, of salt per pint, or 473 milliliters, of water). Or maybe they're all the same. Oh and there's the one using bicarb soda.
And guess what solutions were being made with Thimerosal which contains mercury. Not good I should think.0 -
I placed an order with coastalcontacts last night and I have just received an email from the with this message.
Thanks for ordering with Coastal Contacts! To ensure that we can process your order(s) as quickly as possible, we require the attached form to be completely filled out by the Credit Card Holder and faxed to our toll free fax number at a suitable time.
If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for choosing Coastal Contacts.
The form is asking for my card details and for me to fax them. ( I don't have a fax and I wouldn't feel confident sending one with my details. I've already supplied these when I ordered.
Can anyone who's ordered from them before confirm that this is normal procedure please?

I read with much interest in the Daily Mail yesterday that I quote 'Millions of Britons who wear Contact lenses are the victims of a 250million annual rip-off, it has been claimed. Industry insiders have revealed that expensive 'Long Life' disposable lenses are EXACTLY the same as cheap 'one-day' lenses!
The 'long-life' lenses, which are sold to be reused for a month cost about £5 a pair or more, however, the 'daily' disposable lenses, which are effectively the same lenses, sell for £1 per pair.
All the lenses are made of the same material in exactly the same proportions - the only difference is that the daily versions have fractionally different diameters and curves. The article goes on to say... This has no bearing on weather they can be reused and makes no difference to the wearer.
The near identical nature of the lenses is one of the industry's best kept secrets, at least as far as Britain and Europe are concerned as in the U.S. the contact lenses companies Johnson & Johnson and Bausch & Lomb has faced legal action over the issue - both have made multi-million dollar payments to disgruntled customers, who argued thaey had been misled.
I have been a contact monthly lenses wearer for many years and am amazed after reading this that I have apparently overpaid by hundreds of pounds!!0 -
 I've just picked up my 3 month pack of disposables today. on the boots vision plan. i have been paying £12.50 a month without solutions.
just found out the new prices are now £13.10 delivered, including solutions.
Or for just £6.50 delivered without solutions. They haven't got round to sending the letters out to everyone yet, so i organised it there and then at the shop. Went for the £6.50 deal, cause solutions are so... cheap at Asda. Pick em pick along wif yer weekly shop.

Specsavers have refused to give me my prescription for contact lenses unless i pay them £10.- i had a check up in June
Another optician's rang them up and they refused to give it to them -saying that i owed them money- which is completly untrue. I am taking the matter further but has any one else had the same problem ?
