We are having a mix of the traditional and not so traditional. We are having black, white and hot pink theme. Our pocketfold invites are going to be black, pink and damask, the bridesmaids will be in black and hot pink, and I am going to carry a wire and crystal bouquet rather than flowers. We are not having favours, a wire cake topper, I am going to do a wee speech, a fast song as our first dance, no line up, a disco and ceilidh. I cant think of anything else as the mo, but there will be other things too!
Although we have family members who would prefer the whole traditional ivory and gold, chair covers and bows, sugared almonds type of wedding, its not really us, so we are doing what we want, not what anyone else does! (there is nothing wrong with a trad wedding though, I dont mean to sound offensive or anything! H2B's sis had a v traditional wedding and I know family will compare, and hers was about £20k, 4 times out budget, so having it exactly our way cuts down the opportunity for snippy comments!)0 -
I am going to put flip flops in a basket next to the dance floor for the ladies, as if they are anything like me, fab shoes but killing feet by the evening aren't compatible with dancing;
Would you mind telling me where you're getting your flipflops from? I think its a great idea but is it working out to be expensive?0 -
What a fantastic idea!! with flipflops being tall myself I hate wearing heels so this is a fab idea

I don't have them yet. The plan is that when the nicer weather comes along, we will keep our eyes out in the likes of Primark and Tesco. I reckon we could get some fo £1 a pair, and not everyone will want them so planning to get about 20 pairs. If I find any bargains I will post! xI have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Have a look in Primark, you can get some fab glittery ones for under a £1, and if your lucky they may be cheaper now due to time of the year.0

Some of the rules are restrictions these venues have are outrageous, we were thinking of getting here registered for the small, informaly type weddings but I'd never be able to be so strict with people, if we were doing one a day, or more, then I can see that there would need to be boundries but most to all of these places have dedicated wedding planners, that obviously can't plan otherwise they wouldn't be so strict! Then there's their fees, I couldn't ask someone for £3.50 per chair cover, to hire  and keep a straight face!
Could you not start asking people whether they want your money or not? I'd be getting a bit snippy if people were being awkward with me, with very little reason.0 -
you can make your wedding as different and personal as you like. go to offbeat bride as menioned before. as for the comment about you have to have dress, cake, etc so they are bound to be simialr well you DONT have to have those things! you ahve whatever you want.
We have not found venue as proving hard but things we are definitely planning for are:
non white dress
afternoon tea or picnic food all vegetarian and as much vegan food as possible
no alcohol
no speeches
no best man or moh
no top table
no bridesmaids
no flowers
non romantic music if any
cake of cheese or if we cannot afford it no cake at all
small gathering for about 3-4hours and then we are leaving on honeymoon
this my not be that unusual but i have not been to a wedding where any of this has been the case so it is different for me.
ETA- I'm just looking through the offbeat brides- great link, thanks so much for posting!Present yourself, press your clothes, comb your hair, clock in

Reasonable for a castle, then go to a restaurant for the meal

Think someone may have already mentioned this one - starts at £450.

also this is the nearest garden to us in kent but we cannot afford it but might be ok for someone else again:

I think our main problem as well as our list of needs is that our budget is small0
