This is going to sound a bit weird, but lately I've been thinking that there's very little room to do something "different" for a wedding! It's been kind of bugging me, for example we're thinking of a black and white colour scheme for our wedding, at first I thought it would be quite different because black isn't traditionally associated with weddings but having looked through magazines/on forums, it seems to be quite popular!
I'm not one of those people who do stupid things just to be "different" and "original" and I know that there's probably about a billion weddings happening each year so it would be very hard to do something that hasn't been done before, but I guess I want the guests to think, "oh my god, I haven't seen anything like that before!", does that make sense at all? Does anyone else think that sometimes or am I just crazy?

the fact it is you and your OH, are the only things you can guarantee will be original about the day (unless you are divorced and remarrying each other, in which case, dont do it, it didnt work the first time, learn from your mistakes;))
i must admit, all wedding are a bit samey, theres a dress, theres cake, etc. and even if you do think you are being original, you can bet someone has already been there and done it
dont get hung up on trying to impress your guests, just enjoy the day for what it is

ps. Black and white is soo 20060 -
im having black and white! im not bothered that it isnt in fashion or that other people have had it.
there are plenty of things that you can do to make your day special and original to you.
for example im going to make our cake topper as us, my H2B is an avid fisherman so he will have a fishingrod with it hooking me as a mermaid.
this is just a little thing but its all the little things that make the day personal0 -
Every wedding is slightly different from the other why not make your own vows? that makes it a bit more different than other ones.
Its up to you what colour scheme you go for I'm having purple and whitebut I'm only getting married in 4 years I just like the colours.

Its all about making it personal to you, that's what makes your wedding different.
This is my favourite wedding blog http://offbeatbride.com/ there are some really amazing weddings on there which stray far away from the norm.trying to become a moneysaving student0 -
The joy of MSE is that it is cheaper to make a lot of things yourself from invites to favours so that makes it personal and unique. Think of how many companies mass produce these weddingy items and how many people don't have time or inclination to make things thereselves. I'm making favours, invites and centrepieces, I'm sure I'll think of other things too.
Anderson8, are you making anything else for your wedding, I mis-ordered ribbon and it's black, it cost £2.99 so really not worth seeing if they'd swap it or postage really. It's 7mm and there is 20 metres of it0 -
you can make your wedding as different and personal as you like. go to offbeat bride as menioned before. as for the comment about you have to have dress, cake, etc so they are bound to be simialr well you DONT have to have those things! you ahve whatever you want.
We have not found venue as proving hard but things we are definitely planning for are:
non white dress
afternoon tea or picnic food all vegetarian and as much vegan food as possible
no alcohol
no speeches
no best man or moh
no top table
no bridesmaids
no flowers
non romantic music if any
cake of cheese or if we cannot afford it no cake at all
small gathering for about 3-4hours and then we are leaving on honeymoon
this my not be that unusual but i have not been to a wedding where any of this has been the case so it is different for me.
we have had to adjust lots of things as we wanted to be outside but that is proving impossible and i did want the dog to be there but also impossible in england. but i am still trying to just organise a nice day NOT a wedding so we get to do lots of good things.
due to constraints of many places we are now also considering
sweet station to keep the children happy
venue with decent rooms rather than gardens
venue with decent area for children to play in and walks for adults that don't get on
so thats just some of our ideas and i am sure you can come up with tons more. when are you getting married and what things do you want to do for definite? i have billions of ideas if you want to think of something different0 -
I have been thinking about this alot too. It's not about being different for the sake of it or impressing people, it's about injecting a bit of mr and mrs taadaa-ness into our special day. I am a sucker for the last detail anyway! So, these are the things we are doing to reflect us, and why:
I am not going to have any music when I walk down the aisle, as I can't think of anything that won't make me feel like a bit of a prat;
The BMs and ushers are going first so they can have their (very brief) moment of attention lol
We are going to have old photos of our grandparents and parents on their wedding day, with our siblings, then at the end we are going to have a tv with a wedding pciture loaded onto it so the evening guests can see what the ceremony was like;
We are getting married outside, weather permitting, because we like the fresh air and where we live is beautiful;
I am going to put flip flops in a basket next to the dance floor for the ladies, as if they are anything like me, fab shoes but killing feet by the evening aren't compatible with dancing;
I am making the favours and the cake myself, we are going to have little spherical cakes with a top tier round cake, as I love to challenge my baking skills;
I am making some bunting and and little fabric hearts with flowers/beads for the chairs, as i love to sew;
We are having Pimms and Elderflower cordial for our welcome drinks, cas I love both - but the bar will be open just in case
The speeches will be before dinner as h2b wants to get them out of the way;
We are having chocolate dipped strawberries as our canapes as they will be growing in the fields all around us;
Our table names will be wedding traditions, as I have been researching it, and I think it will get guests talking - if I am going to do something, i like to know why I am doing it!
What else...Am putting flowers and cosmetics like a nail file, plasters, perfume testers and mints in the loos. Just lots of little things that take a bit of effort and not that much money really. There are lots of things you can do to make it a bit special.
Oh and our best man is coming from Oz with his wife, it will be their wedding anniversary too, so we are going to play their first dance song as their second dance and clear the dance floor so they get to have a special moment too! xI have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

I am going to make chocolate buttons for the kids - really shaped like buttons - I got a chocolate mould for them! Will also make them a shoe box of stuff to keep them amused. Not so keen on the sweetie station as let's face it, they are likely to start running around like a bunch of savages after a couple of handfulls and my nephew is quite a handful at the best of times in his own sweet way! xI have had many Light Bulb Moments. that sounds brilliant have you found a venue outside? we had found one back home which i thought would be ok but they can't do the sort of menu we need. searched whole of kent and sussex and we now only have one venue that is on the ok list that we are going to visit but it is an inside room
we were originally eloping to marry in a field in scotland so this has been a big compromise and i am worried being stuck inside is too much of one really

thats what i had been thinking but if we go for this indoor venue its got a big childrens play park, sand pits etc so i can't imagine they will want to be stuck inside so i thought they can grab a bag of sweets and run off and play and do something interesting.0
