Talktalk or Sky Broadband?

Where LLU is not available BT supplies the broadband to O2 and O2 give their own name to it, so really BT's broadband with another name, except probably worse as O2 from what I have seen.
You really are very helpful, and clearly very knowledgeable on the subject. But is it any wonder people like me end up stuck in contracts they know are too expensive just because it all seems too complicated to be bothered trying to sift through?
In my position, what would you do?0 -

What are you paying, BB, line rental and call package?0 -
I signed up with Talktalk in early January. We needed a phoneline put in and Talktalk were the cheapest installers and also offered the cheapest package. Phoneline went live on Jan 26 with the broadband to follow within 21 days.
Coming up to 21 days now with no sign of router, I rang Talktalk only to be eventully told my broadband live date was now put back to March 2nd. To there credit, they have issue me £60 credit.
I'm going to stick with it though. Reading around, Talktalks actual online experience (speeds etc) is very good and I can't fault the phoneline. Just appears that they may have taken on more then they can cope with.0 -

I haven't got the exact details with me, but it's a total of around £28 per month for broadband and line rental (ie. about £10 more expensive than TalkTalk).
I get free evening and weekend calls (to landlines only), which suits me fine as I'm out all day every day, and use my call allowance on my mobile if I need to phone anyone's mobile.
I normally spend another couple of quid each month calling 0845 etc numbers (which would be free with TalkTalk).
I don't do on-line gaming, or download films or anything. The very occasional iTunes splurge (generally only when someone has given me a card for Christmas or my birthday!) is the most heavy-handed I get with my broadband - other than that it's just general web browsing, using MSE (;)) etc.
I notice that the Talk Talk package has an international calling bolt on for £2, which would be of use to me - I currently use Skype for that, but it would be nice to have a reasonably priced alternative.
But I keep coming back to not wanting to change if the service is going to be appalling. I couldn't bear to end up contracted to the telecoms equivalent of nPower!!!0 -

I would stay where you are then. TT is only cheap because they are an LLU supplier on your exchange, no one will match them unless they also become LLU. The price you quote would be much the same on BT. Watch out that your Evening times are not changed to follow BT who from 1st April will start their's at 7pm not 6.0 -

You really have been incredibly helpful, thank you. I'll definitely be trying to batter Madasafish down a bit on price though - it works with mobile providers, so it's got to be worth a go.
Thanks again for all your advice.0 -

The trick would be to say you are going to TalkTalk and ask for a MAC code so you can transfer your broadband. You do not have to use the code, it expires after 30 days anyway if you haven't used it. This may get you the better deal. Remember though that Madasafish will be paying BT a fair bit for your broadband so will not have a lot of room for manoeuvre0 -

I got Vodafone down from £25 to £10 using that same method (well, PAC rather than MAC), so at least I've had a bit of practice! And I do like a challenge!0
