as for mothers/fathers day, we wouldnt do that either,
what about your own parents though?:footie:0 -
I do not like Valentines cards nor anything to do with Valentines Day. It is just a way to waste your cash on tat. I also feel this way about Birthdays and Christmas. I can understand Birthday presents and parties for children and presents (within reason) for children at Christmas. Luckily my husband feels the same way as I do. Both of my parents are dead so don't have that issue.0

I do like valentine's day and do always get my boyfriend a card. Silly tat I do not buy him.
With regard to Mother's day, Mothering Sunday is actually a proper tradition to do with the Church of England. Father's day is just made up by the people who sell cards. I do always bother with mother's day, because my mum does care very much about cards. I have sometimes bothered with father's day, sometimes not. (It's very soon after my Dad's birthday, so I don't feel the need to bother, my dad doesn't mind but my mum gets so upset that in future i will always make the effort.)
I do shop around for cards, this year my boyfriend is having one from a charity shop, but it has a picture of Venice and is just the right card for the occasion.0 -
I'm not in a relationship so don't do Valentines day. Personally I think it's more for teenagers anyway though XH did used to buy me flowers sometimes which were appreciated. My parents are dead so don't do those days either. My children do get me a card and gift for Mummies day which I do really love. They buy something for their Dad if they're going to see him on or near that day but I don't think he's that bothered about it really.0

My parents would much rather I rang them and visited them regularly (which I do) than send a card once a year - guess I am lucky0

Yes - I think that pretty much all of these celebrations are a "commercial" events! We did send cards in the early days though....
Luckily my whole extended family thinks in much the same vein......
Tell the person you love them on their special day!

I "do" valentine's day (well, we swap cards and have a nice meal at home), as both I amd my OH like it, but I don't "do" mother's day or father's day as I'm pretty sure my parents would just laugh if I got them cards.
It is (or should be) about the recipient's feelings, not about your own, surely?0
