Anyone ever used Aqueous cream?

Hi me again Ladies/Gents

I took bubs to the doctors yesterday regarding some dry skin patches on the side of his head which we just couldnt shift. Pharmasist said it was infected so went to docs, docs said no its not butyou have two ways of treating 1. use a steroid cream, i said no dont want to put that on such young delicate skin 2. the above cream piled on when ever required basically she said dont let the skin ever get dry keep applying a thick layer. after just 24hrs it has improved greatly which is wonderful.

Any how doc also said we have to bath him with the cream basically smother him from head to toe then wash off in the bath. This is not a problem in theory however bathing a riggly bubs is fun at the best of times bathing a slimey riggly bubs is near impossible. Any tips for keeping hold of the little eel without me having spend out on one of the spongy bath seats he is too big for them really but i do need something to help :-)

I use this sometimes when I get an excema flare up. You have to effectively use the cream as bubble bath, wash and moisturizer. Try taking out a big dollop in your hands and swishing it around in the water before you put the baby in. It has the same water softening effect!. Bathe the baby - then just before you take the baby out, lather him/her very quickly and rinse even quicker. It's good effective stuff!!

I use aqueas cream all the time, its great when your feeding too as it doesn't have the baby.
I used to have to do this with my youngest, i'd just get in the bath with place him on your lap and slowly bathe him to rinse the cream off. That way you have nice shiny skin whilst having fun.I tried all sorts of ways but for me this was the only way i could do it.

ooh i will try the bubble bath idea first ( she never told us you can do that) then just lather his face up. He hasnt got these patches anywhere else just his face but the doc didnt want us using any form of soap on him at all until it has cleared up. He is 5 1/2 months old so doesnt really get dirty so i dont suppose it would matter if i dont cover his body init would it ?

I had this problem with my son. I used to put an old towel on the bottom of the bath to prevent hem slipping, put in the water so that it was just enough to cover his legs and bottom, and then splash the water over his top half using a jug. It felt much safer that way. Getting him into bath was still a problem but I used to wear an old sweatshirt and just grab him tight to me! It was messy but we survived!

Its is slimey stuff isnt it, but works. maybe try putting a towel in the water so you can grip him more easily with the wet material insteads of slippy hands...?

Have you tried Epaderm? It's an emollient cream which can be used just like aqueous cream. But it's not half as slippy!!

I use Aqueous if anything flares up.
I am allergic to so many things, even my parents water will flare my skin up if I shower at theirs! But Aqueous is fab, so good on sensitive skin!

I think E45 is the other one I can use fine?

Not yet swampduck this was given on prescription so thought i would give it a chance it does seem to be working even though its only been 24hrs it doesnt look half as red and scratchy as before.

I had never heard of it before cant believe it has so many uses ive picked up loads off other threads where its been mentioned.

Believe it or not E45 was not rated by my Doctor!

She reckoned that for anyone with exzema and other conditions which flare up - that the density of the cream is what matters which is why aqueous and other emollients are so good.

She gave me samples to try and said when I found one that suited me best she would then prescribe in large amounts because I seem to be one of the few people that pay for prescriptions.

When I bought a bottle of Epaderm over the counter while waiting to see the Doctor it cost me £12 instead of the £7 or so that a prescription would cost me and I could have twice the amount for that.
