OR
if you have a strong let down (which feels almost like the inside of your breast is being squeezed) then it should ease over time, for most I think this is a matter of weeks - for me it was months
If you think it could be the first see if you can find a baby cafe http://www.thebabycafe.co.uk/ or breastfeeding group to pop along to for latching help - Don't be scared you might make some lovely new friends whilst there too:) if your not sure ask your MW or HV if they know of any groups or try netmums.
Ps. feel free to come and chat in the parent club we have a few qualified BF supporters who post regulary0 -
Thanks, it's not my nipple that hurts it feels like the inside of my breast like it's going through to my back and then when she slows down after a few minutes it eases off if that makes sense?
Sadly there's hardly anything near me, most things seem to be over in Nottingham way which is a bit of a trek for me.
Will pop over and nosy at the parenting thread when I get a minute!0 -
I just wanted to say hello and I feel for all of you if you are finding things hard at the moment. I have just finished breast feeding my wee one. Decided at 8 months I wanted to stop. Feels a bit odd when I am feeling sentimental but absolutly right when I see his shiny white teeth!
Persevere and maybe try and see a Health Visitor for some support.0 -

Sounds a bit like mastitis pain to me. With a newborn, just a whimper seems enough to trigger a huge letdown and then if you have a blocked milk duct it's painful. Do you also feel slightly fluey? If it is mastitis then you have to keep breastfeeding because nothing clears blocked milk ducts like a baby nursing. Although if you need a break, expressing a full feed can help - the milk is still coming out and there's no latching on pain. Frankly, I found the first couple of months trial and error and pain. Second time around, the next baby was no problem at all.0 -
A bit late catching this thread but I reckon breastfeeding is definitely the moneysaving option, even if nursing bras etc are expensive. My tips:
* Buy 1 cheap nursing bra for hospital, survive for a week or so and then buy a decent one that fits. You will change size and the first ones you buy will be thrown away!
* As an other poster said, try feeding lying down - it seems strange but it works!
* Get your OH trained - coffee and snacks need to actually be within reach of your free hand. You may want company while you feed. Or a book. Or both! Get this right, and everyone's happy
* Buy some cheap primark vests and cut slits for nursing. They look odd but they extend your wardrobe massively, just for a couple of quid.
* Don't spend out on nursing clothes just cos they say nursing in the title. If you look carefully you can find plenty of normal clothes in the shops which allow you to feed discreetly and they are often nicer and cheaper. Milkchic.co.uk lists tops and dresses in high st stores that will work for breastfeeding.
* When people stare at you feeding your baby in public, it's not always because they disapprove. Sometimes they're unaware that you are feeding. Sometimes they're looking at your adorable child. Sometimes they are admiring your confidence. Act confident and real confidence will come.0
