Im going to BF, but i havea question. Its kind of sily though... :o

Im 36+3 and i have had no milk leakage what so ever, does that mean i have little or no milk? And will i still be able to feed baby? :o

I never leaked and have fed my daughter exclsuively to 26 weeks, and am still feeding her now while we wean, so you should be fine. After the birth, I leaked until she was four and a half months old but then stopped leaking at all, even while feeding her, which meant I could stop using breastpads.

It's very rare for a woman not to make milk so don't worry, it will be fine. :)

  • I found this DVD a good, free resource, particularly the bit about latching on as I could watch it on my laptop while he did it, IYSWIM

  • Hi! Awesome thread! Just thought i would share another couple of good resources, the first one is all videos which was great because sometimes the wording (positioning, attachment etc etc etc) went right over my head so seeing the vieos really helped although!!! he is quite touchy as in this is how you compress a breast and he does it on the woman - i can imagine that this may wierd some people out, i just liked it because it was straight to the point and i could see it all.

The next one is more information (not videos)

    Breastfeeding tips.

I exclusively fed two very hungry but skinny boys. Like pigpen when i used to settle down to feed the BF i would place a plastic bowl on the babys body under my nipp to catch any leaking milk. A number of times i filled a 12 oz bottle with ease.

My biggest tip ever with BF and if you suffer from allergies like me is buy some aqueas (sp?) cream from Boots (own brand) the one i bought was £1.50 and its amazing for sores, thrush etc. I checked with the pharmacist at boots and it can be placed one the nipp when baby is feeding and apparently doesn't harm them. Used it with both of mine and they very healthy little monkey's.
when feeding makes the baby feeds a bit longer on the same breast so that they get the hind (fatty food) instead of just the fore(thin milk) to help fill them up more.
Breast pumps i don't really like electric ones but i do prefer the Avent breast pump tried others but were all a bit to uncomfortable.

Snack/drink wise always make sure you have something close by when feeding as you never how long your going to be there. Once i sat in same spot for FOUR hours so glad i bottled drinks, books and a remote next to me.

I used to just wear my ordinary clothes when out and about, only special nursing bras i bought where out of M & S. If your lucky they sometimes sell 2 nursing bras in a pack for £6.

Breast pads cheap 4p sanitary towels from wilko's works a treat.
Slings :- Just make one out of a old cloth and tie it around you,, then all you do is swap the baby around and voila free to move around as you please.Brilliant when you have another little screaming for your attention.

I never leaked at all when I was pregnant and like I said before only used breast pads for the few days while I was in hospital- I managed to feed my DD for 18 months til she self weaned and she didnt waste away- count yourself as one of us lucky ones :) you will be fine trust your instincts and have confidence x

You can get aqeuos cream on prescription if you are still entitled to free ones might be worth asking the doc :-)

    Good news!
Tesco TT breast pads 1/2 price offer has been extended until 10th March, lots of other baby things cheap including the TT CTN electric breast pump half price at £39.99
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

Don't worry EA some women never leak even when feeding bubba, it doesn't mean you won't have any supply once baby is here. :)

I was one of those women! I have 3 children and breastfed each of them for more than a year. And I never, ever leaked. I still have an unopened box of breastpads which I bought when I was pregnant with my first! And with my 3rd I didn't feel my milk come in. Yet I must've had enough milk as he was exclusively breastfed until he was 7 months old.

When my oldest was born (he is now 12) you couldn't get special breastfeeding cloths. I just wore jeans with a loosish top which I would lift up and drape around the baby. You couldn't see anything when he was latched on.
