2ft long pieces of black hose pipe are supposed to scare Cats, apparently it reminds them of Snakes. I can't say wether it works, but landmines, a Lion or a Cat of your own all have their merits.

I have got a very determined cat, it does his business once a week. I have not seen any poo for two weeks. My garden looks weird, I have got bamboo sticks on the lawn with CD and foil and jars filled of water with eucalyptus oil on the border. Since the cat cannot do his business on the flower bed, it does it on the lawn and when he cannot do it on the lawn, it just pooed on top of the geranium plants. I am getting obssessed with this as I go and examine the back garden for poos and gets very upset when I find one as I take pride of my garden. My neighbour must think I am weird. The cat goes and does it in his frong garden and he just leaves it like that.

I'm a cat owner and if one of my neighbours put something harmful in their garden that injured my cat, I would be sending them the vet bill. I know someone who put crushed glass in their flowerbeds!
Try planting citronella that cats don't like. Or you can buy something called silent roar which is made of lion poo - cats won't go in the garden if they think a very big cat lives there. Other neighbourhood cats are always in my garden which is dangerous as I'm pregnant so have to be very careful when gardening and it's very annoying, but it's unbelievably cruel to harm a cat who is not acting deliberately.
Or a super soaker would work if you can catch the blighters!:rotfl:

As the owner of 3 cats, I'd say use a water pistol, or buy a dog and let it use the garden on a regular basis.
(please don't think I'm irresponsible having 3 cats who poo in other people's gardens...this is an area where everyone has a cat or two, or a dog,... we all just tolerate it as best we can, even when people let their dogs come into my front garden and poo on the lawn!)

    Hi
Just read an article by Alan Titmarsh in the Saturday magazine that comes free with the Express newspaper today.
His Plant of the weeks was a plant called Coleus Canina that has a scent that deters cats from flower beds etc, it is a foliage plant with grey-green leaves that flowers blue in summer.
The Express offer is 5 plants for £8.95 (inc p&p), 10 for £13.90 (inc p&p) or there is a bumper pack.
Don't know how good that is price wise but the plant sounds interesting.

Well i bought a cat repellent spray today at wilko's to spray round the bed and it's not harmful to animals or the plants! :D

I'm going to give that a try before i use nails on the fence as a last resort. I will also try the olbas oil idea and cd's on a wire. I have been looking in the shops for that mirror on a roll stuff - but i can't find any! That along the bottom of the fence in front of the raised bed should work - if i can get any!

Good idea on olbas oil I have some in :)

Our next door cats are unneutered males and are starting to tease/be quite agressive to our house cats

Any tips to deter them from batting at them through the back window and the likes?

    :(

Is there a reason they aren't getting the males neutered? Our Thomas is booked in for next week as you want them done before they start spraying as it stinks.
If you get on with the neighbours perhaps you could have a chat about it? If its cost and they are on low income, many cat charities will help with costs, or to be honest as a last resort would you be prepared to contribute for peace? Just for info ours is costing just over £40 so well worth it to save the cost of replacing furniture/carpet etc once they start with the spraying.

My neighbour has 2 tomcats and they are lovely. They come to see me (well for their 2nd breakfast) every morning.I have begged her to have them done, but no joy.One of them has already been in a fight and had to go to the vets.We have a feral population too and I am really worried for these young cats.My neighbour said the vet had told her it would make no difference. They would still mate and would still fight even if the were castrated.I do not believe this but I have never owned a male animal..They are her cats and in the end it's her decision but I think she is being very short sighted.:( Oh and I am a gardener too and just clear the mess up.

We have had female and male cats and her vet is wrong. Getting a male done does calm them down, make them fight less (they also become less of a threat to other toms) and reduces spraying in the house at whatever age you do it.
The problem is once they have started spraying/fighting etc they will probably not stop altogether, but according to our vet and just about every other cat owner/book/ online info it is a help. The earlier its done the better the behaviour will be but its still worth it even in an adult.

All cats male and female will fight, if neutered or not. They are only partly domesticated and there are always a few spats, usually when a new cat moves into the area whilst they decide the pecking order.

Our Thomas is all right near us as all the cats are female or very old so he hasn't had any fights here. But unfortunately he has a habit of following me when I go out and had a fight with a big tom on the way home from school (he walks with me and the kids, waits in the next bit of land to school and meets us on the way back-if we don't "collect" him on the way past he sits until we come back for him :rotfl:we even have had to go back and collect him in the car daft cat).

He is about 9 months now so we are getting him done before he is fully grown and picks up any bad habits, but I would always get a cat done. Sadly there are plenty of unwanted cats so keeping the population down is as good a reason as any. If done they might be able to have sex so to speak (although without the sex hormones the drive to mate will be greatly reduced), but they won't produce any kittens.

Trouble is at the end of the day its her choice and if she won't have them done, not alot you can do.
