If you want something organic that is safe for kids and will also help your grass grow, you can try powdered lion urine/droppings (available online). Cats crap and urinate in your garden in a territorial battle with other cats (and dogs) by leaving their scent and claiming ownership of that patch. They smell and gain information about their rival from these deposits. The lions scent contained in its business, being a member of the cat family, scares them off with them thinking "I'm not going to mess with that cats territory". This also contains nitrogen which is grasses main nutrient. Try it, its only about 8 quid and is worth a go. If you have success please post.

My neighbour has one of those cat alarms that sends out a noise they hate, it seems to do the trick.

I was about to post the same question!! Having found cat poo all over my strawberry bed, i tried the bottles of water and making rattly things that blow in the wind, both supposed to scare them - neither worked - today i cleared 4 more piles away!

Tomorrow i will be going to wilkos for the cat repellant - i'll let you know if that helps.

I am also thinking of putting nails along the top of my fences to stop them climbing in - the bottom is secure so i know they're climbing over!!

I'm having a similar problem myself, the cats get in over the 6ft high fence. Sometimes they just sit on the fence watching me as if to say 'what you gonna do about it'. Cheeky beggars. I love animals but i don't want cat doo in my raised beds when i plant out my veg. I may employ the nails along the fence idea, but i don't know if it would work (guess there is only one way to find out), but also, wouldn't want any harm to come to the cats.

I do have a dog, but she just doesn't look or sound very scary, so even when she is out in the garden the cats don't seem very threatened!

If you try the nails, let me know how you get on!

I saw on another thread someone said stick straws in the soil so tonight i went out and did this - pink, orange and green flourescent ones!

Tomorrow i'll take a picture and post it on here!! If it doesn't scare them hopefully they'll laugh so much they'll forget to c**p!! :rotfl:

I might try and get some reflective mirror type stuff and put that along the bottom of the fence where the raised bed is - hopefully seeing themselves c**ping might scare them??

If all else fails i will have to net the whole bed - it's just a shame if that happens cos it will be a bit of an eyesore!!

I have the same prob so will be trying the spray and the water bottles/straws.

A word on the onions - they are toxic to cats and can lead to nasty expensive problems for the owners (Renal damage etc leading to failure - same with garlic, lillie bulbs and a few other things) Having just lost a kitty to this horrible illness I would urge people to be cautious please. I have cats and they stay in - I wish all owners in built up areas would do the same but it is not the cats faults.

Nails on fence - would look a bit 'prison camp'! What about those spikey plastic mats door mats? They would be uncomfy for the critters to grab onto so would deter but niot harm or cause an eye sore?

    Cheers ;)

I tried those carpet grippers laid in the beds and it seemed to work for me. (A bit harsh I know, but I tried most other ideas)

Well i went to Wilkos, got the nails and forgot the cat repellent! :o

Although touch wood, i have seen the little blighter twice leaving the garden today, shooting me evil looks...but no poo in the bed!! :D

He'll probably do it on my car bonnet in the night!:rotfl:

The nails won't stick out much so hopefully not too much of an eyesore!

I was going to try the Oranges idea, rather than the onions anyway so hopefully the smell deters rather than making them poorly.

I don't hate cats or anything, i just don't want them doing their "business" in my garden!
