need sure fire way to stop cats pooing in my garden

Options
I`m desperate to stop cats coming and littering in my garden. I have small kids and want them to be able to play on the grass without worrying about them standing and rolling into cat poo.
I also want ideas that will keep cats away but not also keep birds away in the process.
Someone once told me to put little reflector type things around the garden to look like cats eyes, and this would keep cats out. But this is also likely to stop birds visiting if they see what seems to be a cat lurking about.
Any advice or proven tips will be most appreciated. Thanks.

Try half filling plastic bottles with water and laying them around the garden.. its supposed to dissuade cats my neighbour says it works well...

  • Cat proof your garden. (Doubt whether half filled plastic bottles will have any effect whatsoever).

    Google cat proofing

The bottles work a treat but they do look odd. The you can get a plant called cat shoo which has a smell which cats dislike. Other than that, you could always get a cat yourself. If you have one, it marks that as it's territory so no other cats will poo there and wont poo on its own turf.

    I've been Money Tipped!
A couple of my neighbours use this and say it does the job. I had a look in the tub and it looks a bit like small granules of grey cat litter and reeks of garlic.

They usually buy it from Wilkinsons but it doesn't show online so not sure if they still stock it.

Orange peel seems to work. I got huge bag grotty oranges reduced from supermarket.
Chop the peel into bits so it doesnt show much.

Make sure you clear up the carp first so that they are less attracted to the same place.

Hi, try raw onion sliced and scatter it round the garden. My sister told me about this and I've tried it, worked a treat for me! All other remedies didn't work!
  • Having a filled water gun handy on the window sill works a treat, as cats hate water they soon learn :D The sliced raw onions sounds like a good tip too.
